Although I have the saddle brown to pair with my RG, I would assume the rose gray. But what prevented me from getting it is it kind of looked similar to the soft pink version for the 6. That one didn't really "patina." It just turned black on the edges. I'm really looking forward to the saddle brown with RG. Love tan leather and whether RG looks more pink or copper depending on lighting, I'll love the tan against it.

Preference ranking for RG:
-saddle brown
-rose gray
-midnight blue
-black
-brown

yeah, that's what's giving me pause for thought. I wonder if pre-treating the case with some sort of leather protection product (God knows which one!) would mitigate that enough to make it a viable choice?

I was torn between this one or the midnight blue. I choose the midnight blue for my Gold 6S Plus. I think I made the right decision. Thanks OP. And strange that I choose next day shipping on mine, but it won't arrive until the 25-29. That's odd.

Was just thinking of this - my favorite leather case/iphone combos for each colored iphone

-saddle brown/gold
-saddle brown/RG (based on images)
-midnight blue/silver
-black/black

I've just made an executive decision and gone for saddle brown. Thanks dsquared81, you've really helped me out!

if I look at the camera cutout, the phone color itself can pass for gold in different lighting. hard to tell it's silver at times. I still really like the color and case.

Hope you like it!

On my 6 leather case I used apple brand leather conditioner and water repellant. I think it did a good job at slowing down the wear process and sealed decently against water since there were blistering issues with last years case.

Think I'll go for leather conditioner - I suppose the only risk is that it messes up the leather somehow (don't know what I'm talking about really!) and that's £35 down the drain. Just have to do due diligence, I guess.

It didn't ruin mine, it really made the leather softer and more supple. I think a little goes a long way and you only have to apply it when the case seems "dry."

Really great to have someone's real world experience, you've been a great help. Much appreciated. Cheers, John.

also note, when you get the case. the buttons are obviously a little hard to press but will become more responsive as it ages. I used the butt end of a letter opener (plastic, round edge) and pushed the buttons in with it and out with my finger a little bit. it helped a lot and now they're very responsive. some have used the end of kitchen utensils also.

I guess this is their way of avoiding people swapping and trying them on

I get what you mean. But they could still use the transparent plastic but seal up the packaging (like they do with the 6s leather cases). That way people can still find the one they want without opening or trying them on.

Anyway went in today and exchanged mine. In and out in 5 mins. Much happier with the new one. Can't wait to put my rose gold 6s+ in there!

Cheers for the info. Really helpful, thanks. ☺

Do they not have them opened and on show in the stores? Here they have all the Apple cases out on show so that you can try them on your phone first.

They have sample cases for people to try on, but the actual case is sealed up and you can't see the exact leather finish or pattern (if any) until you buy it.

Apparently not, but apparently they can open them for you to look at. I haven't been in the local (Birmingham, UK) store recently, so wouldn't know if this is accurate information or not, though.
Sorry, meant as a reply to Will22.

Definitely pre-treating will help to keep the staining at bay but might not keep it exactly the same color. I always treat all leather products with Apple leather guard. It's not the Apple electronics brand but you can find it on Amazon. Any leather spray stain and water protector will help to seal out staining and water damage.

Can't speak for the new cases but I think the previous ones had really crappy quality. I opened up several packages at the Apple Store to get a decent one. I'm not talking normal leather markings but actual bumps of something under the leather or major bumpy folds on the edges - poor manufacturing. That's just wrong for an expensive Apple brand case.

Some pics I just took of the leather case.

I live in Solihull and the store in Touchwood has them on display to try. A lot of the staff have them on their phones as well so they can even show you what they are like with some ware on them.
