I would recommend getting MS office because it is the standard in schools, and everyone else are probably using it so there would be no compatibility issues. If she uses Neo office all her friends/working partners can't open her files.
If she needs it, get it now. There's no guarantee that new macbooks will come out anytime soon. The current ones are great and will suit her needs very well.

I like my Office 04 too, but I keep NeoOffice around as well. The way I figure it, it's free, and it will only keep getting better.
