the other day I was at the gym and like a lot of others I use my 3G S as an iPod, when I run on the treadmill I don't like to keep it on my arms as it is annoying to have to keep pulling the band up. The treadmills I use have two cup holders left and a right, geing right handed I put my water bottle in the right cup holder. for some reason I switched it up. Tip 1 is ALWAYS make sure that there is not a pool of water in the cup holder , I didn't and learned the hard way. so the left top half of my phone got caught in some water. it's not like was submerged, but it got wet. I dried it off, and it looked like at the time that it was just superficial on how the phone got wet. it was later when I got home I saw the camera was holding water. I put my phone on my heater, and it wasn't very high just warm. I put it on top of my gloves. after about 45 minutes the camera looked clear, so I took the phone off the heater. It was 2 days later that I noticed that the power button was not working.

I have read about other people and how they got held up because of the sensors were tipped, so I looked at the headphone jack and charging port and both looked, clear. So I decided to take a chance and head to the apple store. I went down and the Genius bar was not too packed and got an appointment for 10 minutes later. the guy calls me up and I tell him that the power button was not working right, he verified it and he did the same superficial test as me and he didn't see anything it was when he broke out the magnifying glass with a light is when he saw that the bottom sensor was tripped, but the top where the actual issue was, was not tripped. he took my phone behind closed doors and looked "under" the phone and still did not see anything tripped. my next tip is apparently there is no sensor under the phone by the camera and power button. And when you're on line it helps to be kind to all the people there and make them laugh, and interact with your kid if you have one. So if you phone gets wet by the camera to the point where you can not see out of the lense all is not lost, take a chance at the apple store and you may just leave with a replacement phone.:D

You got extremely lucky, since one sensor was tripped.

They gave you a replacement even though you had a tripped moisture sensor??

Consider yourself extremely lucky. Not sure I've ever heard of that happening before.

    Lucky dude!

On a side note, I also use my 3GS as an iPod when on the treadmill, although I normally drop in my locker key first so I get to hear a splash if there is any water... so far no water.

I read either here... or on another forum that even if you have 1 tripped, you are still eligible for a replacement. I don't know how accurate this information was, but thought I'd put it out there.

Perhaps this is Apple's new policy?

he said that a tripped sensor voided the warranty but would do it anyway. if thats the policy that aint bad either.
