How do they determine what model to give you?
This reminds me of a French expression: "cela se fait à la tête du client", which loosely means: it depends on the head of the client...

Some people get a new machine that as closely as possible matches their original machine (e.g., top of the line original > bottom of the line replacement). others get one that matches the original's level (e.g., top of the line original > top of the line replacement).

One can only hope!! :) I have a maxed out may 06 MBP17. AppleCare just hinted that they may not have the part in stock. Will know when I return to the states in April.

What's a maxed out current machine look like? Heck, what's thespecs on a bottom end? iPhone access only or I'd check myself and drool myself to sleep :). :)

Thank you Apple.

My journey started out last Friday, when i experienced screen banding on my early 08 Macbook Pro. I booked an appointment for the next day. I take it in and show them the banding issues and they took it in for repairs.

After 4 days waiting for a replacement screen to come in, i get a call yesterday to pick it up.

I go today to pickup up my laptop and i test it out in the store. I noticed that the back light on the screen was not working. So they took it in again, and i was really frustrated at not having a laptop for a week because i really needed it for school. I remained calm and talked nicely to the employee.

I get a call about 30 minutes ago saying that they could not fix the issue. They tried replacing the screen again, logic board etc. Nothing fixed the issue.

AND THEY ARE REPLACING IT WITH A UNIBODY MACBOOK PRO.

I am going to pick it up tomorrow morning as they are doing data migration to the new laptop.

I LOVE YOU APPLE

Wow nice, there isn't to many companies out there other then apple that go this far for a customer.

A great story, nice to hear, and thanks for sharing it. Congrats on your wonderful new MBP and may you long enjoy it.

Apple's excellent customer care was one of the main reasons I switched last year when I treated myself to a MBP, - two iPods had died within warranty and were immediately replaced without a murmur - but it is always good to hear other tales with a positive outcome.

Cheers and good luck

Same for me! I got a used one off eBay and saved over $100. It was scratched up and the sensor was a bit bent, dented. 2 or 3 months later it wouldn't turn on for some reason. The genius got be a brand new one!

I just got back from the apple store, and i love my new laptop lol.

I don't know if this is a mistake or not, but they gave me the one with a 2.53 processor, 4 gig ddr3 ram, and a 320 gb hd. I had a 2.4 ghz with 2 gig ddr2 ram and 250 gb HD.

Looks like they upgraded it for me because they still have the other model available in Unibody

Im a happy camper no mater what, i love you apple.

i hate you :mad::p

Jealousy of Course :p
