This is the first that I have heard that Samsung is better than TSMC for the 6S Plus. Why would that be?

0.1 mm larger, really? That's as thick as the width of this letter....l

Because the larger size dissipates heat much better and heat destroys battery life. It's simple as that.

Can we please let this chip gate nonsense rest. All electronic components have variability.

This is still a thing? I really don't care which one is in my 6+ and 6S+. I just use them.

Stupidgate continues.

If you guys don't care about the issue, you can always ignore the topic and move on. This is clearly not BS to many people and the differences are FACTS, not small variations. OP is delivering valuable information and should be respected. We are not talking about religion, where dogmas and beliefs are discussed... This is science. Now back to your cult and prayers if you feel comfortable with that. Thus I bet you guys have the Samsung chip on the 6S and are actually really mad about that. The first step is always denial. LOL ;)

Size differential is so small that the same snug fitting case that fits the 6 and 6+ will fit the 6s and 6s+. That was the factual point I was making regarding the size difference. This small variation is not going to make any noticeable heat dissipation difference.

Making statements is not FACTS. It should be noted that the absolute worst accuracy for information comes from eye witness testimony. Any scientist with even a modicum of training will tell you that what a fellow scientist says, is next to worthless. The scientific method revolves around two major premises, experimental evidence that is repeatable. And pier review, that accepts nothing on say so, but repeats experiments looking for flaws in the original.

From this methodology, true FACTS are deduced, modified and elaborated on. A true scientist will welcome critical pier review, challenging initial results, and repeatedly seeking experimental refinement. Making a hypothesis based on a single experience is so flawed, as to not ever being considered a FACT.

So, care about an issue, is to examine, question, and retest, always looking for flaws in the original logic and demonstrating over and over with rigorous experimentation the validity of or denial of the hypothesis.

Remember, for hundreds of years, Newton's theory of gravitation was thought to be correct. It was proven 100 years ago, that Newton was wrong. That he had an approximation of how nature operates, but was incorrect. There is no such force as gravity. It took an obscure patent clerk in Switzerland to come up with the special and general theories of relativity to explain what is actually happening. That mass distorts space time and in its distortion space time imparts acceleration, which we perceive as gravity.

So perhaps before lecturing the rest of us on FACTS and statements made from someone's experience as valuable proof, you should first educate yourself on scientific methodology. And welcome critical questioning of any so called truth.

What I care about is people spreading nonsense and calling it science, when it then prompts more buyers of products to exploit a really good Apple return policy in an abusive way. The reason I care about it is that I have seen other companies tighten up their policies because of this kind of thing, then impacting everyone because a few abused something.

The science is that all electronic components vary from one unit to the next. An iPhone is made up of many such components and so there will be variability in many measures from one iPhone to the next. Science is NOT someone taking an insignificant sample of products in a vastly uncontrolled environment and running some arbitrary unnatural test to make a YouTube video, and then having others make their own assessments about the videos and stating them as fact.

I'm welcome to my opinion just as much as you are. My "take" on this issue is that its total nonsense.

I'm pretty aware of the scientific method and the only way it is validated. No need to write an encyclopedia to lecture me.
Anyway, what I mean is that the tests that have been performed by lots of specialized websites and people on the Internet have reported the same results and that is what affects us, users. You see... Science as you know, works with a lot of probability and the probability of getting a good chip or bad chip is real as 1+1=2. So no theory will play against the FACTS that have been verified and apply to our daily usage, be it from Apple or you.

Good god.

6S Plus
158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm (6.23 x 3.07 x 0.29 in)

6S
138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm (5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 in)

See the difference?

Why people keep on bring up thickness when both the phones have wildly different length and breadth?

A small change of placement of CPU die can definitely cause increase or drop of temps by 5 degrees. It depends on how the hot air flows inside the device. Bigger iPhone 6S Plus does have few extra mm of space to mobilize hot air and it is enough to render Samsung vs TSMC debate as non issue.

But same is not true for 6S.

Now I think I have articulated my point well. But it would be fun to read enterprising fellow members dismiss my points because "they" think both iPhones are of similar thickness.

Since the Samsung chip does better in certain tests, when I sell my iPhone I will make sure to tell people that it "has a certain chip known to be more battery-efficient". I won't specifically mention if it has a TSMC or Samsung.

People that don't understand the chips will think it has a TSMC.

My iPhone 6s+ appears to be running an ohio scientific 6502 ...6502 @ 1MHz, overclocked to 2MHz with simple jumper

No encyclopedia and no lecture here. There is no "good and bad chip" unless you have a defective phone. There are no "FACTS" presented here... and saying it in all caps doesn't make them facts. You have a few bits of anecdotal evidence that a few people want to take and draw broad conclusions with. You are welcome to believe the nonsense but don't expect to spout it here and not have it challenged.

My junior high math teacher use to say, "Math is the only true science, everything else is a good guess"

My junior high math teacher use to say, "Math is the only true science, everything else is a good guess"

Well, that used to work until Quantum Theory. Also, I remember my math teacher showing us an equation that subverted some basic math principles... Given the fact that math was invented and is interpreted by humans, it's a good guess as well. ;)

Why not? It's valid.

A bunch of non-engineers exchanging anecdotal and pedantic "information" that has no connection to the real world?

I'd have to go with "not valid" on that one. The idea that people seriously would exchange phones over an "issue" like this is truly mind boggling and quite the social commentary.

TSMC is better than Samsung for sure. That's why Apple will use TSMC for iPhone 7 only.

You're right, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the whole global competitor thing Apple has going on with Samsung. It's just that TSMC "is better".

Putting all their eggs in one basket is a gamble so Apple used 2 manufacturers. Plus TSMC didn't have the capability for the volume Apple wanted. They may ramp up for the 7.
