My TenFourFox About:Config tweaks - and my addons

HARDWARE ACCELERATION

The following are three settings that will enable graphic card hardware acceleration. I have not brought them up before because until tonight my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro did not deal very well with them. However, with my new NVIDIA card I thought I'd try them out.

Please be careful! If your card is not capable of hardware acceleration this may make TenFourFox unstable.

layers.acceleration.force-enabled: true
layers.acceleration.draw-fps: true
layers.acceleration.disabled: false

Add this setting if it does not exist (as boolean):
gfx.direct2d.disabled: false

Note, for these settings (the ones in bold) don't include the colons.

Make sure the option "Use hardware acceleration when possible" setting is checked in Preferences. 😉

If you do have a good card capable of this - you might be pleasantly surprised. 😀

eyongren, I shall try these out! Nice work. Got a FX4500 in my Quad. Is there a particular site you recommend that I might see the difference on straight away?

No, no particular site.

You'll just see faster rendering of pages wherever you go, which of course means browsing is faster.
 
Many, many thanks for this thread.
I spent a few hours over the weekend incorporating these tweaks and add-ons to 3 of my ppc's. An iMac G5 (just rebuilt and will be the subject of a separate post), my 20" 'Sunflower' iMac, and 667 MHz TiBook. The results are great, and truly exceptional on the TiBook, so much so that I've hardly stopped using it yesterday.
My only regrets are that I didn't download TenFourFox earlier, and applied all these exceptional tweaks.
Bravo to all involved in this compilation!

Glad to help!

Tip on the tweaks though. Once you apply it to one computer, if you copy the 'FireFox' folder inside the ~username/Library/Application Support folder to the same place on each computer you wish to make changes to it makes it much easier.

This is exactly how I apply any changes I make on one Mac to all of my other Macs.

Post #93 changed to reflect advice from the developer of TenFourFox.

@Altemose You are going to want to change this in the Easy Installer. javascript.options.baselinejit should be TRUE.

If you go in to about:config and type in ipv6ident. you will be presented with a small number of settings that start with that. If any of their values are true, then just change them to false.

Unfortunately, I don't have that parameter on the about:config.

Just took your advise and copied the Firefox folder across to my Cube. And she's benefited from it! In fact now sending this from the 'old girl' (1.2 GHz with 1.25 GB RAM). It's a bit like a new lease of life. Think she might benefit from even more RAM though.

Thank you very much! This is a highly requested task by a few of the other members of the community here and I sadly do not have time like I did to get it done!

Finally got around to installing the prefs on the G5 powermac 1.6ghz and was stunned at the change. The old timer is giving the Dell i3 optiplex Win 10 (which I must admit I am really enjoying compared to recent os x versions) a run for its money on non-video sites. With the Moutain Lion theme, the Libreoffice PPC port and these I can do all the admin for my business on it.

The best though was when I tweaked my father in law's PowerBook. He was shocked at the speed of the browser. Thanks from us both!

I really have to say, installing all of the tweaks has sped up my Cube even more than the simplified version. I still have the simplified version on my more powerful macs, like my Alu PowerBooks and my G5, but for older or lower end machines, like my Cube and TiBook, it has been a major help in having them be usable online.

Also, not sure if anyone has tried the tweaks on a low end G3 but as soon as I get OS X onto my G3 beige, I'll try out all of the tweaks on there and see how much of an improvement it makes 🙂

A little bit of security…courtesy of @Hack5190 in his thread here.

media.peerconnection.enabled: false - This will stop your IP address from leaking information to websites.

For a complete prevention set the following:
media.peerconnection.turn.disable = true
media.peerconnection.use_document_iceservers = false
media.peerconnection.video.enabled = false
media.peerconnection.identity.timeout = 1

Note, these are optional and only affect security. Applying these tweaks will NOT speed up the browser. I am just providing them (courtesy of @Hack5190) as an added benefit.

P.S. I am not updating my prefs file in Dropbox to reflect these changes right now, but be aware that when I do eventually update it, it will have these tweaks applied. If you use my prefs file and don't want these tweaks applied you will have to go in and change them back at that time.

I had been using them for a while and they have made a big difference on my 1.467GHz G4DA. I recently started using uMatrix and replaced several other addons and it seems considerably faster to load now. Much cleaner using only one addon to do what 3-4 of them used to do, too!
