When connected to my (non-Apple) router, I get random connection drop-outs. I don't mean signal dropouts, but a sudden disability to connect to anything. I need to renew my dhcp lease or simply visit the routers web based admin screen and it magically works again. Obviously highly irritating a definitely a 'feature' I got with the 4.2.1 update.

I set up my out Airport Express and... Suddenly no problems. Not ideal to have one additional router needlessly running just to cater for the iPad (none of my other devices have problems with my router, and like I say pre-4.2.1 the iPad was fine), so I'm still looking for solutions.

I saw someone on a site just say that when they specified a fixed channel in their routers settings the problem went away for them. Might be worth at least trying.

I've noticed following the update of my 64GB 3G iPad to 4.2.1 that my WiFi connection hangs if I go from the Amazon Kindle app into Safari. The signal strength is still reporting a strong connection but there is no connectivity.

The easiest way to restore it to to go into and out of airplane mode. Speed seems to be fine when it does work.

I'm using a TrendNET TEW-637AP access point connected via NIM-100 (MOCA) to my FioS Actiontec router. It's configured for WPA 802.11n mode on a fixed channel 6.

WiFi is fine if I connect to the Actiontec wireless 802.11g using WEP

Are both antennae pointing vertically up? It's a longshot, but if they are then try putting the front one down 90 degrees so that it is parallel with the ground rather than sticking straight up in the air.

I know it sounds like madness but this has completely fixed the WiFi problem that I had on my iPad ever since I got it in May and my issues did seem to get better with 3.2.2 and then worse again with 4.2.1 so I really did think they were OS related. More details of my fix here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1058269/

I'm now on my 4th day and about 25 hours of total use since I did my fix. In that time I would have expected to have had at least 300 glitches during internet access and so far I haven't had a single one.

My fix is at least worth a try for others with multiple antennae routers. I really can't explain it but all I can say is that the exidence really seems to be growing that it has fixed my issue completely.

4.2.1 Wi-Fi drops

Since upgrading the ipad from version 3 to version 4.2.1 my Wi-Fi drops about one an hour, something that my earlier version never did... I also have seen several other issues like Safari locking up and in one instance the whole unit not turning on (had to hold the power and home button for 10 sec for it to recover).

This never happened in the previous version... I like alot of the new features but the issues are frustrating...

Same issues here. I bought my 32 GB iPad in May and have had terrible wifi issues since day one. iPad didn't connect to network, dropouts every 5 minutes, etc. I've tried various router settings (only n, only g, static dhcp, wpa2, wep, changing channel from 1 to 6 to 11, etc.) nothing helped. Then the long awaited 3.2.2 update came and everything worked fine. Still some dropouts but iPad reconnected within 1-2 seconds. Two month ago I changed my router, I have now Linksys WRT 120. Since then no sporadic dropouts. I was very happy, finally.

Until update 4.2.1... All the former wifi issues came back magically. I didn't change any router settings, but I have various dropouts every 5-10 minutes and the only way to solve it is to turn iPad's wifi off and on again, and again, and again... I'm so p... off. One more time a I have to find a solution instead of apple fixing it for me. Hours of trying and experimenting with various router settings and reinstalling iOS 4.2.1 all that didn't solve the issue.

In my opinion the iPad is pretty much useless if it cannot connect to the internet. I like it very much, but at the moment I only feel anger when I take it in my hands. I think that only a new update can solve the issues.
Bye the way, I've two Airport Express, one Extreme and a TimeCapsule. All of them have some issues. Extreme looses PPoE connection, TimeCapsule has dhcp issues and the Expresses are so buggy, it's not even worse to mention them.
Sorry for sounding like an apple hater, actually I'm a big fan, only very disappointed from their wireless know-how...
