My wonderful wife came home last night with a $7,000 sewing machine. She's an MD and can afford it. So today I'm going down to the Apple store and picking up one of those $3,249 rMBP with i7 processor and 16 GB RAM.

Unless someone here has a better idea.

With all due respect, it seems you and the wife should have more discussions about family finances. Being on different pages regarding the finances has "killed" many marriages. They still cause issues in mine.

As an aside, when does an MD have time for sewing. Thought all their stitching occurred in the OR. Good luck my friend.

I make a great salary as an RN/IT consultant. Twice what I made as a clinical RN in the OR. She makes 5 times what I make. Who cares what she buys!?! I"m just glad to have an excuse to buy a new MBP.

so why do you need an excuse? who cares, just buy it - period.

Bah, Porsche is nothing special anymore. It seems that everyone drives a Porsche here in Zurich ^^

Same here in Munich..kind of sad, it's a nice car. Maybe I need to move back to Berlin.

But a white Ferrari maybe...

I am failing to see the logic. It would appear to some extent that you two don't need to sit down and discuss purchases large or small. That happens and is easier to manage when the money is flowing; however, what does her $7k purchase have to do with your childish retaliation? Did I miss the part of the story where you stated you two vowed to never make large purchases without telling the other first? Did you say you told her not to buy it and she did so now you want to retaliate?

You're a grown ass man, buy a new computer if you want it. I don't see the correlation between her purchase and this declaration that you finally have an excuse to buy something with a big price tag. Again, if I missed the above parts of your story then much of this would not apply except that I think retaliation in a marriage is the start of a road that leads to divorce.

^^ agree with jessica. Maybe OP should consider paying back those 20k he mentioned earlier. :p

Get a maxed out Mac Pro.

You mean the one with the one with the larger SSD. Can't see that. With all the external hard drives we have, why would I need more than a 256?

Wow! I've obviously hit one of your buttons. Thanks for the advice.

And I am suggesting that you start a poll at MR about which car you're going to buy. Sounds like fun to me.

Agreed! I'm still in love with the Audi A8. But I've always wanted a Viper. There are a few around here with the Porsche Turbos and Ford GTs. Of course I drive a '07 Dodge dually. It's paid off next summer. We'll see....
