My Wife's $7,000 sewing machine

No. :) But she recently attended a two day class on embroidery. She brought home some work that impressed me. She says the new machine will be able to do the same type of work easily.

She could start making all of your family's clothes.

I avoided this thread for a few days because I thought it would be a waste of time. I was wrong - one of the more entertaining threads in awhile, and a refreshing break from "Is Apple going to release a new iMac today?" discussions.

To the OP: Sounds like you and your wife have a pretty cool arrangement, so enjoy it. Just ask her to sew a nice cover for your new laptop.

I am looking to be adopted, I was turned down by Brad and Angelina. I am a 32 year old kid, and if you adopt me(32 year old white male, wipes own butt), you also get a Japanese daughter-in-law and a 18 month old granddaughter. I don't ask for much of an allowance, just 1% of your net pay. :D

She helped me make a felt cover for my MBA last year on the old sewing machine. But small office luggage bags are so good now it really was redundant in my situation. What I really want to see some is cool embroidery on everything, even simple stuff like initials on some of my gear.

She has three kids now. The youngest is your age. I'm sure you and your family would fit right in. ;)

You should buy iMac G3s in all of the colors. :D

No thanks. That sounds fruity. But, my first computer was an IBM PS/1 that I got in 1990. It looks a lot like the G3 and came with Windows 3.1. I didn't have it long because it was a 286 and the 386s had come out......

OP I hope you're enjoying your rMBP :D

Thank you for your comment. I am. But now I can see that I would have been happier with 16GB RAM. My other MBP works fine with 8GB and hardly ever went over 4GB in use. I've seen the rMBP with 8GB go over 6MB with similar usage. But, I haven't heard a fan yet and routinely heard it with the other MBP.

I would not worry about your memory usage unless you are seeing pageouts in Activity Monitor. OS X will use whatever memory is available, so if you are seeing 6GB of 8GB used, that is normal. I really doubt given your description 16GB would do anything for you.

Unless you are doing some heavy 3d modeling you won't use 8GB or 16GB.

My wonderful wife came home last night with a $7,000 sewing machine. She's an MD and can afford it. So today I'm going down to the Apple store and picking up one of those $3,249 rMBP with i7 processor and 16 GB RAM.

Unless someone here has a better idea.

Get a book called "Rich dad, poor dad" quickly!

People on MR are more expensive than I imagined. Never in my wildest dreams would I know of someone who would pay $7000 for a sewing machine. What's it's difference with a $50 one, the brand name?
