I always buy a case and use it for the first 2-3 weeks or so. I guess mainly because I am getting used to the weight/feel. Then I pretty much never use it unless I am taking my phone to someplace where it has more of a chance of getting dropped (Going hiking/camping for example.)

I use an invisible shield on the front and back of my 5; it stops scratches and that's perfect. I tried a load of cases but they all seemed to ruin the look and feel. Given that it's a sturdy bit of kit anyway and has easily survived a few drops in the last year, I'll do exactly the same with the 5S.

I was considering this, too. But how have the sides held up? Any noticeable dings or scratches?

I use a thin-ish TPU case, in case of accidental drop.

What's the point of choosing great design if you're going to hide it.

I used to case and wrap/shield everything. But then I realized how much better it feels to see/feel the device naked.

The iPhone 5 actually feels too thin in my hand, so the case not only acts as a shield from damage, but makes it more comfortable to hold.

I tried both, with and without a cover. What I'll do this time... I'm unsure at this point.

I'd never use an invisible crap shield. If anything it'd be iCarbons.

That said I care more about drops then scuffs. Maybe apple oem case, may just stick with my seidio spring clip from my 5.

In a word, yes, quite a few. I've got the Black & Slate model, and after a few drops the edges are chipped in places and show some of the silver underneath.
The front and the back of the phone are flawless though thanks to the invisible shield.

Naked or Covered?

Covered my iPhone 5 when it first came out in Speck Fabshell thought it was ideal, got tired of it then a bumper, a pouch and another pouch, Pad & Quill's Little Pocket Book then naked until I dropped it and got noticeable scuffs along the side then really didn't care and fully enjoyed it caseless for awhile.

I had the phone recently swapped under warranty. Went back to my original Speck case now back to P&Q's Little Pocket Book and naked all over again and for some reason I keep going back to caseless and realize it ain't worth the worry dropping your phone every second it's in your hand. I will consider buying Apple care though next time because the amount I've spent on cases would probably cover the Apple care twice.

Enjoy your phones naked people like Apple intended them to be.

My Space Grey 5s, which I've had since launch day, has been naked with Zagg films on the antenna band (top and sides) and on the rear, and an SGP Ultra Crystal on the front.

It's already starting to wear on the bottom edges. The edges are the worst on the anodized models.

So I've ordered a Luvvitt ClearView case.

Naked everything.

Not everyone chooses the iPhone because of it's design. Sure, it has an unmatched quality and design but I mostly like it for it's internals, it's speed and software, apps, etc. Design comes second to me. Didn't anyone ever teach you it's what's on the inside that counts? ;)

And iPhones do look better without a case, I wont argue there, but I disagree that it feels better naked. A nice slim case gives the phone a better grip and a more secure feel. I will never have my iPhone without a case. My tech 21 clear impact shell is a great case. Amazing protection, D30 shock protection and super slim, and clear on the back.

Everyone who doesn't use a case always says "take off the case and enjoy your phone!" Meanwhile I'm thinking "I need a case to enjoy my phone". Without a case it feels rather fragile (even if it isnt) and vulnerable, with a case on I don't worry. I like to protect things from the elements.

I've had every model and the 5 was the first I put a case on. I just haven't been able to get used to the reduced thickness so I used the Incipio Frequency for the year I used the 5 and have been using Apple's black leather case on my 5s. The little bit of added bulk makes this phone feel perfect (almost iPhone 4ish).

Naked with care taken. I used to have a case on my iPhone but didn't like the feel or size of it. I took it off an now I'm just careful with it. It's 2 years old soon and there's not a scratch on it.

If Apple intended them to be naked why do they sell cases?

iPhones weren't intended to be naked or covered, the beauty is you can do whatever you want with it. Some people prefer to cover it, in case of accidents, wear and tear. Some people like to show it off and unfortunately, eventually show off how scratched it is because it was out of a case.

I just can't picture myself keeping an aluminum phone with a thin anodized coating naked. No no. I can show it off just enough with my clear impact shell case.

I always use a case ... just sold my iPhone 4 and it was in the same condition as the day I bought it.

my new Green 5C has a clear spigen case with screen protector (well worth $12).

I have a black leather case for my phone whilst at work, but use it naked outside of work, as it is after all a great looking phone! (5s).

I really hate the glossy iPhone display and so the first thing I put on every new iPhone (and iPad) is an antiglare film. I applied a lot of them and now I'm able to install them without any dust or bubbles. The black iPhone 5s does even look more sexy with a matte finish at the front.

I used a case with the iPhone 3Gs, but since the iPhone 4 came out I just put a film on the front and back and I'm happy.

On the iPhone 5/5s I use a PowerSupport antiglare film on the front and a Spigen Ultra Crytsal Mix film on the back. Most people don't even realize I covered my iPhone. Really loving it.
