For the iPhone 5, the deductible was $50 (I actually used it once). But for the 5s they raised it to $79. That is why if I get a warranty it will definitely be with Squaretrade. $50 deductible for them, and up to 4 incidents, not just 2. And they allow you to get it fixed/replaced at the Apple Store Genius Bar too.

Really? I need to look into that. How do they handle the replacements? Do you have to pay up front and they reimburse you? I purchased my iPhone at full retail price. Do they handle that differently?

I'm assuming you pay up-front and then get reimbursed, but I've never had to use one of their warranties just yet (only bought one on my kid's iPod Touch last year). Has pretty decent reviews.

I have the Mophie Juice Pack Plus. Doubles my battery life and it's easy to take off so I can rock my iPhone naked very easily.

$120 for a battery case?!

As much as I like the idea, that's just too damn greedy for my tastes ($80 would be my max).

You can always go for the Mophie Juice Pack Helium. It's $80 and comes in different colors! It gives you an 80 percent boost in battery. I admit $120 is a lot for a case but I make it through a day easily now without charging and the case is high quality.

Completely naked for me. I can't stand cases. All they do is make the phone bulky and scratch it all up. I rock the phone the way they designed it.

I'm going with a Caudabe Veil on my 5s. Virtually naked but still offers scratch and a little bit of bump protection. Seems like the best solution to me. I don't like bulky cases.

Naked when using.
Oakley sunglass bag when carried.
AppleCare+

I skipped AppleCare+ this time, in favor of the insurance through Sprint that gives full coverage, including loss and theft.

I have AC+, which I've gotten on every iPhone since AC+ was released. Additionally, I have the $6.99/mo Asurion insurance through AT&T - safe guard against loss/stolen phone. Plus, the deductible is $199.

Too much? I've had the AT&T insurance there since the 4S.

For all people who rock their iPhones naked: does your phone get scuffs and scratches really easily? What about the screen?

I'm surprised how many go with the "naked with Applecare+" approach.

Considering how vital the home button is (I'm pretty much always unlocking by clicking it) and knowing people whose home buttons stopped working after a year of use, it feels like a pretty good bet that it'll definitely need to be replaced before the contract is up.

Also on the 4S no scuffs or scratches showed up until I dropped it on concrete and even then it was pretty minor.

I use the new leather apple case on my 5s. Have a Black and Tan one. I usually don't carry my phone without a case when I go out. Sometimes I use it naked at home.

LOL! Yeah, that's super insurance there!

I used to just have AC+, when Sprint didn't offer coverage on the iPhone.

Sadly I couldn't get AppleCare+ for my iPhone 5 as they have only just released it in England.

Today I bought a tavik bumper from the apple store, I bought the blue one and then took it back and swapped it for the red one.

It is very nice indeed!

I still see $50 deduct able for the 5s, where did you see that it's $79? Is it still $200 at apple for a new, refurb if you damage yours? Because at Squaretrade even $124+$50 is $174, might as we'll wait and just get it from Apple IF something happens and your only out $26 extra.

For the AppleCare+, not sure what you are looking at, but here's the link from Apple's website:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/S4575LL/A/applecare-for-iphone

For SquareTrade, they always have 30% coupon codes out there. Also, they sell them on Amazon where they list them for $99.

Main differences are the cost of each deductible ($50 vs $79) and the number of damage claims you can make (4 vs 2). IMHO, the SquareTrade option is a far better deal.

Gotcha, I thought you were saying squaretrade was $79, not AppleCare+. I think for me it all comes down to how much Apple charges for an out of warranty replacement now, it used to be only $200.

Some nice options for slim cases and bumpers posted here.
If anybody is looking for something more minimal and unique then this real Bolivian rosewood back cover is another option.

Holy smokes! that is beautiful I wonder how it would look on the white/silver 5s, also they have an option for 5/5s but I wonder if they changed the cutout for the flash because I don't think the one pictured would work with the new flash.

I wonder how it attaches to the phone also.

Edit: To the OP topic I was conflicted on what to choose, I am either going to get a bumper like the SGP slim metal or I am going to keep it naked or some combination of sometimes naked sometimes in a bumper. Now there is a good chance I end up with a wood back.

Mine was naked until Apple came out with the leather 5S case. Now I have that on my phone and wont be taking it off until I get the 6.
