I quite like iTunes actually, though sometimes I do find it a bit sluggish.

All this talk about having different tyes of media in different applications, seriously?
That would be a serious faff, I like all my stuff in one place, so I can jump between whatever I want easily. Just get rid of the garbage like ping.

i hate the way it forces you ti copy the files.
It doesn't force you to copy files. That's a choice you can make:

attachment.php

The initial delay while it starts and finishes loading whatever it is that it's loading.

Now if only the Itunes media location box was separate boxes for music/podcasts/tv shows/movies/apps id be so happy

^^ +50!

I would love this feature to be implemented. Although an easy (still absurdly annoying) workaround would be to create a different library for videos and using the Option+Icon choice to pick it. Problem with this one would be that if you're sharing with another computer or ATV2, you'd only have one library visible at the same time.

If they were to implement the separate media library locations, though, I'll finally have a desirable way to keep my music library on my laptop's HD, but have media on a non-always-connected external HD.

I find it frustrating that with my 27" imac and new macbook air 13" (both with 2 users on each) i cant have the itunes all sync together , and doesnt matter which user is on and doesnt matter which system they are on.

So when a new song is downloaded it adds to all and if one is deleted or edited its deleted/edited from all.

Homeshare doesnt take into account if the laptop goes out of the house

Matt

Why's everybody hating on Ping? I've never used it, but isn't it in it's early stages?

Mine is that I'm still not a fan of the colorless sidebar, but I've began to adjust. I used to do the trick to replace the graphics in the iTunes package, but after a couple of iTunes updates, it got tiring to do it every time there was a new update to iTunes, so I just gave up. At least the stoplight fix in Terminal is persistent through new installations.

You can't just dump things in your music folder and have them automatically appear in your iTunes library. That's one of my favorite features of the much lighter and superior Foobar...

No issues with load time as I use a SSD and xslimmer.

You do to know that there's an "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder, right?

"/Users/UserName/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes"

Now that they've added downsampling on the fly, I'd like to see a range of bitrates rather than the sole 128AAC option. I'd also like to see Gracenote support more genres.

Apart from that, not much else; I only use iTunes for playing ripped music, never buy anything from iTMS.

This and I'd like to see an option for storing music and videos in separate default locations.

I recently moved my library location, and got iTunes to do it for me.

I noticed that iTunes reorganised the library into a larger number of distinct directories than before - so Books/Movies/Music/TV Shows etc. are all separate.

You could probably use a symbolic with this new structure to keep your movies on a different drive.

Oh, I know it's possible using symlinks, etc. I'm just saying that Apple really needs to add this as an option in iTunes Preferences.

Right now it's a few steps, but Apple has the ability to make it 1 step.

But Carbon or Cocoa, or 32 bit or 64 bit, is the most trivial aspect of why iTunes is terrible.

I just wish they had implemented standard functionality that you basically get for free in Cocoa apps. I don't care what API iTunes is written in as long as it feels like a cocoa app. For example, in the 'Get Info' dialogue, you get no right-click menu at all when you're editing text fields. There are a lot of quirks like that, which are simply a lot more likely to exist in carbon apps. :(
