It's definitely funny when someone gets a text and a half dozen people in the room flinch, reaching for their phones.

Definitely more customization than just the home screen.

The ability to delete stuff without syncing.

Make it easier to "select all" for emails and whatnot. My phone randomly downloaded all of my Gmail messages from about a 1 month period and marked them all as unread. That really, really sucked.

Synchronizing the To-Do items from iCal.

GPS/location based profiles (different configurations of apps at work than at home).

  • Pentaband GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA
  • World device including CDMA/EVDO/EVDV/LTE
  • Freedom from AT&T
  • Notification LED
  • Queue/history for push notification system
  • Face recognition/fingerprint scanner
  • Infrared remote control
  • Live updating of lock screen
  • Live updating of app icons
  • FM/HD radio (isn't the hardware already there, weren't we supposed to get an app?!)

I've never held the HTC EVO or even seen it in person. But from seeing pictures, I think the iPhone can utilize more screen space. Move the front camera and speaker further up to the top of the phone. Make the home button smaller and move lower. Expand the screen to fill in the new space.

It's freaking huge compared to the iphone. I doubt most IP4 users would want to go that size. It's slim but looks like a wide screen GPS that you see people stick on their dashboards. I never seen anyone have a case on it, probably cause of it's size.

I do have to agree that having a unified "notifications" status bar would be nice, such as on Androids. They could even make it a single app if they'd like, sort of like how the "All Inboxes" feature works. It gets tedious to surf through a half dozen apps to check all my various notifications.

Throw in something like SWYPE, with both of these being software-addressable improvements, and I'd be quite the happy camper.

I'm referring to the amount of screen spaced used. Not the phone size. I'd like to see the iphone remain as it is concerning size. But see the speaker/camera and home button relocated/sized to allow a larger screen.

Obviously not a real representation, but idea of what I mean in a very quick chop

Lets see....
1. Replace the home button with a gesture area like on the palm pre plus, so you can do things like tap to go home, swipe up to launch the multitask panel, double tap for favorites, swipe left for back, swipe right for forward and so on.
2. Voice recognition like on android
3. Multitask interface like on webos, so instead of icons at the bottom you get page views like in safari when you have multiple pages loaded. You can have an x to close the program and still have that bar at he bottom with iPod controls and screen lock.
4. Multiple pages in folders, so when you have a folder open you can swipe left or right to have more apps per folder.
5. Slightly bigger screen. I don't want the phone any bigger, but if the screen can be 1/4" bigger without maki g the phone larger I would prefer that.
6. Wireless sync to iTunes using blutooth or wifi.
7. Small rubber gasket covering the antenna so fix the antenna reception problem without havin to get a case.
8. Metal back with a rubberized matte finish for better grip and not as brine to breaking like glass is.

I think that's it for now.

That would never happen unless BB sales takes a serious hit for consecutive years.

I don't mean like actual BBM, but a similar program exclusively for iPhone that comes with stock iOS and is supported by apple.

Unless you mean that people don't get blackberrys just because of BBM in which case you're wrong because I know over a dozen people who have bought a blackberry just to be "on that bbm tip" as they say it. On FB I see tons of statuses where people ask whether they should get an iphone or bb and someone always compares the specs and shows how iphone is superior, yet they still end up getting a blackberry. BBM.

-LED Light
-Customize sounds for SMS/Email
-Sound profiles. Work mode, home mode, bar mode.
-Notifications need to work better
-Widgets
-SMS privacy. I don't like a big fat notification popping up (jealous gf).
-Lock screen customization, lots of wasted space on the lock screen.

Bam! What he said! ++

Personally I think they should just do away with the home button altogether and use gestures to unlock the phone. Didn't Apple apply for a patent that would enable users to swipe the back of the phone to do certain actions or enable certain functions of the phone? Seems like that would be nice way to get rid of the button and use all those multi gesture swipes that Apple loves so much. All you'd have then on the front is the camera and earhole freeing up more room for a bigger screen :D

Notification LED in speaker grill with option to turn it on or off. Notifications in menu bar.

Wow, all these 'improvements' are readily available on Android.

As for 4.0 inch+ iPhone, forget about it. Last I remember Jobs was mocking the 'Hummer phones.'

But then again, Jobs has a history of trashing his competitors.

If I had to pick just one thing, it would be a 4" screen. A bigger screen makes routine tasks much more plesant, browsing the web, reading ebooks, watching videos, playing games, everything looks much nicer on a bigger screen.

If Apple cuts down on the amount of room the bezel takes, the screen could be made 4 inches without making the phone any bigger.

It would be like having to choose between two otherwise identical tvs, both with the exact same size and shape, with the only difference being that one is 13" with a really thick bezel, and the other is 17" with a slimmer bezel, and opting to go with the 13" inch version with the thick bezel. There is no rational reason why someone wouldn't atleast want a 4" screen if the phone remains roughly the same size and shape.

Unless you actually like looking at a black bezel and want the bezel to be as thick as humanly posible.

this, is the next step.

It's freaking huge compared to the iphone.
This is freaking huge?

only 6.5mm taller, 3.9mm wider, and 0.7mm thicker.

This is _not_ that much of a difference.

It has a large 4.3" display compared to the tiny 3.5" iphone display.

Perhaps it's the masculine appearance that frightens some.

I just picked up a sexy Nexy Nexus-S today. Great phone so far and super customizable, but I would be open to getting an iPhone5, if it changed a bit from the 4;

- Slightly larger screen at 4" would be perfect.

- Widgets or something close, where there is real weather on the app icon

- Notifications for sure

- ( This is a want, and not a need ) Super AMOLED screen + Retina display would be mind blowing :) I love the AMOLED screen on my Nexus, very rich and beautiful.

Those three are the major things I would like, and lots of other Android fans agree, would tempt them back to an iPhone. More carrier options would help too.

Allow on for T-Mobile and Verzion, and it would outsell Android. Sort of like how the Nexus-One was originally intended, the same exact phone on all 4 carriers, allows the customer to just pick the best service for the best prices, and brings back some much needed competition in the market, to lower the insane smart phone bills.

i like the notification LED idea, i think a nice place for it would be for the square on the home button to glow white

i made this to demonstrate, obviously it would be more noticeable in the real world with it being a real light and all

What is more realistic is that apple will cut the bezel a bit and keep the screen size, so the is device smaller, but with the same screen, also like this idea because I know Apple they probably made hundred of user tests and came up with this screen size, don't think they will change it.

You think AT&T is going to cut into their texting profits? Sure they already have similar apps but it's user base is dismal, but with a stock app most users will not include a text plan or choose the cheapest plan. I'll bet on it that the agreement with Apple/AT&T talks about such. Maybe when the iPhone is on multiple carriers in the US, then Apple will proceed.

Well I guess if the iPhone can retain is dimensions or close too it with a 4 inch screen then why not. :D

There are about 5 guys at my job with EVO's and all of them have cases. Your opinion is not fact.

http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/csr6hev4-bk.htm

And about 5 guys at my job gives a damn.

I never said my opinion is fact. I simply stated that out of all the people with Evos that I know and the Evos I see people with on a daily basis, I never seen one that had a case on it. And I figured people don't want to make it seem bigger than it already is.

I almost didn't notice it but that would be killer and totally Apple! If you don't turn that into Apple.com/feedback I will!

Yup that would be nice. The Palm Treo Pro had that, it was like a soft white slow blinking glow.

I just got rid of my EVO for the sexy nexy "Nexus-S", and I did have a case on it for the first week, but it felt extra big, and at the time it was Summer, and wearing shorts, it felt like a brick in my pocket, weighing my clothes down. And was super thick with the case, just way too large to be comfortably portable.

The Nexus-S is feather lightweight, and about the same size as the iPhone4, don't even feel it in my pocket, and the Super AMOLED screen is drool worthy

The Palm Pixi has the slowly pulsing glow as well.

Very subtle but effective. You can just glance at the phone on its inductive charging base and immediately spot if something needed attention.

(The best thing about the WebOS notification system, and what makes it even better than Android's IMO, is that with the former you can slide-delete individual notifications in the list, leaving the ones you want to handle later.)
