What do you mean for crippled mini-displayport? Is there a difference between the displayport on the MB/MBP's vs the new iMacs (besides video input)??

It's the same.

What I mean by crippled is (1) that it's extremely proprietary, making cables and adapter more expensive and (2) lacks basic features that the original displayport included, such as audio support.

I sure Apple went with mini-display port because Apple preferred the smaller size. The downside of putting all the ports on the left side is that there isn't much room before you start to get in the way of the hard drive and battery area. This might also be the reason why Apple chose not to put in the larger Compact Flash card reader instead of the SD for the higher end pro laptops considering most professional cameras still use Compact Flash. Even their decision to use Firewire 800 follows this theory because it is also smaller in size but I'm sure it's also because Firewire 800 is faster. The smaller size was a convincing bonus to switch from Firewire 400 to 800. ;)

Just in comparison between this Titanium PowerBook and the new MBPs the port area in the new MBPs are very crammed together. The PowerBook port area is a lot wider and spaced more comfortably apart. It seems everything has their good and bad points. :)

Thanks for the clarification. Dell does make about 5 monitors that support the minidisplay port - unsure if they have speakers connected to it or not. Any LED-HDTV's that support it?
