Got to be Billy Connoly, Jasper Carrott and Jeremy Hotz. Connoly and Carrott because they are master story tellers, and Hotz because his delivery is amazing :)

Sam Kinnesin (sp?). There's a few routines that he's done that I could watch over and over. He had energy. I don't think that a heckler could even get a word in edgewise! His small role as a teacher in Back to School is priceless too.

There was a big (fat) guy in the 90s who used to joke about his weight. He told about going to a Chinese Buffet and getting yelled at: "why you no eat vegetable fat boy?!" and "you go home now, you be here four hour!" He also went on about being on an airplane as a big guy, and being threatened to be thrown off the plane. He threatened to "take you all down" by jumping up and down on the plane. Anyone remember him?

That's a classic!

To echo what others have said, Eddie Izzard rules my world. I've got all his stand-up DVDs on my computer. :D

Mitch Hedberg was also very funny.

Not one person has said George Carlin yet. WTF is wrong with you people?!?!
Uh, trying to get ready to attack the fort! ;)

George Carlin has so many good skits. But the Indians attacking the fort is one of my favorites.

I would like to add to the list, Bill Cosby. He is a class act.

Sam Kinison. Probably doing stand up in Heaven.

I totally second that. He was so great. My parents went to see him on one of his last shows and I guess that he just DRILLED!! everyone that stood up to go to the bathroom or something. My dad said that he hasn't seen another stand up since, in his mind, no one can compare. :)

I saw Bill Cosby on TV a few months back. He was Leno's guest. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time and the thing is that his comedy was always clean and uplifting. Something you don't see much of anymore.
With Bill, his humor is clean and it makes you think a bit to get his humor.

I like his skit on natural child birth. At one point, he talks about how his wife announced to everyone that his mother was not married. Of course he meant that she called him an SOB. But you have to think to get the answer. Great stuff. He manages to use SOB without saying it in the skit.

My favourite three (in order of preference) are

Dara O'Briain - Awesome Irish comedian, very down to earth.
Jack Dee - Sarcasm personified. Represents my particular sense of humour
Dylan Moran - Another Irish comedian, dry and sarcastic too. Fantastic! Loved him in the TV Series 'Black Books'

Conan O'Brien is pretty damn funny doing standup. I was surprised, actually. His stand-up is way funnier than what he does on his show.

George Carlin is also very good.

Many years ago, I saw Bob Saget do stand-up on TV. He completely scared me. That is NOT the way Danny Tanner is supposed to speak.

Definitely :D Dara is great on Have I Got News for You, him and Jack Dee have been the best presenters by far (though I think Boris takes the biscuit).

I was going to say Dylan Moran! Couldn't remember his name. Saw him touring a few times and spotted his shows on TV. Really dark character. How do you Want me probably saw the most light hearted character he's ever done.

I watched the Comedy Store last night on TV, and there was an Australian guy who had a prosthetic foot, I can't for the life of me remember his name, but I was crying with laughter. :p

That would be Adam Hills. He's brilliant, I saw him live last year and I'm thinking to go see him again this year.

This thread comes at an appropriate time - the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's on at the moment. Went and saw Wil Anderson the other night who was great and I'm going to go see Danny Bhoy some time this week as well.
