They will most definitely not call it "the new iPhone". Its weird, confusing, and doesn't match up with naming Apple has ever used.

I disagree. I think it'll be called "iPhone" just the like the iPad 3 is simply called "iPad."

In the technical documents, it'll be "iPhone (5th generation)" just like the "iPad (3rd generation)" and the current crop of various iPods.

Ads for it will refer to "the new iPhone" and not "iPhone 5."
 
I can't imagine how or why anyone thinks they know what the next phone will be called. More so I can't imagine why people care SO MUCH that new threads are created several times a week to address the non-issue.

My opinion made sense last year, it makes even more sense this year after last years naming "issue" that set so many people off.

Honestly, who out there really cares what they call it? It will be an iPhone, it will run iOS, it will probably have a couple new bells and whistles and the predictable spec boosts. Same as every year.
