My youngest daughter's name is Violet, which seems to be universally loved by everyone that meets her.
My wife is from India, but came to the US as a child when she was adopted. Her name was changed by her adopted parents to something more American.
I suggested naming our youngest daughter after my wife's name given at birth, but my wife didn't want to give her an ethnic-sounding first name. I then suggested Violet, which my wife loved, and now seems to be the perfect name for my little girl.
My wife cannot have anymore children due to her almost losing her life with Violet, but if I had more children and they were girls, I would have loved to call them Daisy and Lilly.
A little over 19 years ago, I had a one night stand with a girl with that name.
When we hooked up, she told me she was on birth control pills, which I found out a few months later that she lied.
My son recently graduated from high school.

I never had kids and I probably will not at this point, but I always leaned towards naming them after deceased friends or relatives if I did. Now that more time has passed I would probably not name them after any relatives just to end the German aristocratic naming scheme in the family as my father had wished, but I still think fondly of certain friends that I would be honored to name children after. Alas it's probably all for nothing, but I did contemplate this in the late 80s quite a bit.
There are certain names that may be worth avoiding for your child's sake, after all you don't wish to knowingly place a potential burden on them from their birth date. There are many unpredictable burdens that a child may carry and so we should not voluntarily add more. Of course everyone will judge these 'undesirable' names differently.

Nano, Mini, S.E., Siri, and of course the older kids Lisa, Newton, and Pippin.
I know many people who reuse the initials of a child's ancestors, rather than the name, so that they can use modern names instead of ones that may be too old-fashioned. Of course, what's in-fashion and out-of-fashion can go in cycles, so an old name may become popular again and a once-popular name may fall out of use.

Interesting, I believe I have seen this practiced before but it's not something I thought much of at the time. One I recall was giving children the middle name of the parent of their gender, and that cycle would carry. The middle name is a 'reserve' name in a way.
