People often mistake the object that's being displayed as the subject. It's the environment it's in, the feeling that the blue and purple 12-year old youtube influencer lights along with his sailormoon chair give you; that is the art. IMO, the more expensive the display is, the better.I’m sure they will look nice, but it'd want to have to be nice to display in a $80 box.
…It’s absolutely not a need. It nonetheless promotes/encourages good organization and interior design skills to leverage things such as this.People who buy these refuse the right to complain about the price of any products. If this is what people want, then they may as well burn money. Nobody needs this in their house to 'show off' their stuff
…People can say the same about essentially any legal hobby that’s harmless to others but does not fit one’s tastes. This is such a weird fetish
but people who whine about the price of Mac RAM and SSD will no doubt see these as value
What are you putting on display in your own home?
I couldn’t imagine the distraction when watching TV though. My first thought was “Nanoleaf is entering the world of retail display fixtures. Cool, but I will wait until some retailer using them goes out of business and offers them for sale.”
Though the last photo setup in fact would be a cool audio equalizer for visual effects on music.
The forums here are full of people. You can see complaints from people upset about Mac costs and people upset about these costs. Doesn’t mean they are the same people.
Why judge others? Live and let live.
Very cool - but I think I'd rather do this using Arduino or something - the only problem would be the cases themselves. The only place you'll see these are in some boutiques and streamer backgrounds (probably with a mirror to 2x the visible number to save $).
Smart lighting company Nanoleaf today announced the launch of the EXPO Smart LED Display Case, a new product that it is debuting in partnership with design studio Fantaqi.

The EXPO has built-in multi-color lighting that highlights sneakers, figurines, or other collectibles. Each EXPO Case is made from ABS resin, and the cases are modular, so you can use several together with unique lighting scenes. Display cases can be set up in any arrangement, and up to 300 can be connected together.
Nanoleaf designed the EXPO with full-coverage lighting that is diffused across the ceiling of each case for uniform illumination that showcases the user's favorite items. A magnetic sensing door provides subtle lighting effects when the display lid is opened and closed.

Using the Nanoleaf app. The LEDs in the EXPO Cases can be set to animated colorways through multiple curated scenes like Hypno Beat and Flames. As with other Nanoleaf devices, the EXPO Cases support community created scenes and allow for custom user designed scenes. The EXPO Case layout is reflected in the Nanoleaf app for optimum display of lighting scenes across each custom layout.
Other supported features include the Rhythm music visualizer for timing light animations to the beat of music, Desktop Screen Mirror, and AI Magic Scenes for creating a scene based on a word or phrase. The EXPO Cases can also be controlled via Siri voice commands through HomeKit integration.

Comparing cheap plastic with simple LED strips to a computer,..is, well...apex irony.People complaining about another companies product being too expensive on an Apple oriented website is apex irony.
The question was what.…Collector’s need to put their items somewhere
…Collector items: Whether that’s shoes, their own art, games, and really whatever they want to display in their living arrangements worth it to them to enclose in such a wayThe question was what.
And yes, i agree, collectors need to put their stuff somewhere...instead of throwing them away? What's your point?
I didn’t miss them. They didn’t seem genuine with how much you’re attacking people who would be interested in it.My comment was specifically about the same people. But we all have different views. I don’t dislike the product, I just think its consumerism at its worst. Oh, yeah, I think you missed the parts where I said "Everyone to their own I guess." And "Live your own life " in the same post.
I think the marketing here is brilliant. It’s just not for me. I’d rather build something but it’s the ease of use that attracts people, just like the ease of use of a Mac. It just works….
I am entitled to have my opinion, share my opinion and also entitled to disagree with others. I simply said, (paraphrasing) I like the lights but see them as a consumerists waste. But whatever. Maybe go back and read the posts and you will see that I wasn’t attacking anyone. No need to apologise for the irony in your comment devaluing my own.I didn’t miss them. They didn’t seem genuine with how much you’re attacking people who would be interested in it.
I have no desire to buy it. Nor do I care if others do. My only posts in this thread is calling people like you out for valuing your preferences over others.
It’s like colors. We all have a favorite and some have multiple favorites. At the end of the day. It doesn’t matter at all. Colors are colors and we can’t even see the majority of them and the few we can see don’t even look the same to all of us. Let people enjoy their choices so long as they aren’t choices at the expense of others.
