Great pictures from an aesthetic and historical perspective, thanks.

I grew up in the 60s and wanted to be an astronaut like many other kids my age back then. I knew that would never happen, but when 2001: A Space Odyssey was released in 1968, I believed that we'd have manned missions beyond Mars by the year 2001.

It is a shame they couldn't preserve LUT 1. The other LUT's were converted to the FSS structures for 39A and 39B for Shuttle Operations.

Spaceflightnow toured the old bunkers below 39A and 39B where astronauts would attempt to escape to in case a Saturn V was about to blow..... These were capped off and deactivated during the Shuttle conversion in favor of the wire escape system.

Great images, thanks for sharing. I visited Kennedy space center in the past and loved looking at that. Its too bad, that the work and innovation that was driving the space race was not sustainable.

A sad (to me) monument of an era gone by/
