And China already admitted that one of their gymnasts is only 13.
One of the girls competing in the all around final last night was only 15, not 16.

15 is actually ok as long as their 16th birthday happens this year (even if it's after the Olympics).

She's very pretty and talented, but who would name their kid Nastia? That sounds like an evil stepsister name from some Disney movie.

Haha I was wondering the same thing, but it turns out that Nastia is a Russian nickname for Anastasia.

Oh and she's 18. The youngest on the US squad was Shawn Johnson, who was 16. Alicia Sacramone is 20. the rest are somewhere in between.

this is more like what she looks like now~
she's awesomely pretty and when she won that gold, it was terrific~

Nastia Liukin is awsome <3

That pic is what she looked like during all of the Olympic television coverage. I saw the phone - I didn't think it was an iPhone, but it was definitely a smart phone. Good to see more and more people using smart phones these days.

Make-up goes a long way.

Saying Chinese gymnasts are underage is like saying American swimmers are not using drugs.

Except for the fact that they are testing rigorously for drugs. A pint of blood per day and 1000+ tests each time.

The Chinese gymnasts? They are cheating. One girl just lost a baby tooth. That Nastia Liukin girl had to sit out 4 years ago because she was one year too young.

Anyhoo, I was convinced that she was sporting a blackberry or nokia smartphone because of the shape of the camera in the back. But I could be wrong...

there is no evidence supporting that the us swimmers are doping......same cant be said for underage chinese gymnasts

Exactly. There haven't been any questions raised about the swimmers and Dara Torres even goes through an even stricter drug testing program to prove herself.

No drugs... just good training and some luck. The new pool designs this year are helping everyone.

Keep up with the news.
Doesn't sound to me like they admitted anything like that. In fact, they refuted the earlier report that she was 13 by saying that nobody in the media checked with them!

I have no clue who is or isn't on drugs but arguing that testing proves they aren't really doesn't mean much, have none of you heard about the BALCO affair and Marion Jones. Marion Jones has admitted to juicing for years and was tested hundreds of times and never failed. Numerous other athletes have admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs during their careers none of which ever had positive tests. The tests are done for known substances and methods. Considering the vast majority of doping is done outside of competition, during the athletes training phase to increase training intensity and volume, the fact that they don't test positive during the Olympics is not overly surprising, only ones that screw up will get caught at the Olympics.

Personally as an athlete I hope they aren't doping, but in reality we will never know for sure that they weren't, we will only know if they were if they get caught or someone rats them out.

Not necessarily. Traces are left in the body from many of the drugs they would use. And HGH is apparently now able to be detected as I just heard that someone has developed a good test for it.

didn't you guys hear.

It doesnt matter who wins any swimming metals. Any records broken during these games arent going to count anyways. The people who built the pool built it on a tilt. All the swimmers have been swimming up and down hill.

i find it amusing how people care that someone is using an iphone....
It is strange. When you own one you're almost an instant celebrity. People will be come up to you asking of it's an iPhone. The most amusing comment I received today was, "that phone is sick-nasty!" The funny thing is that she didn't even know it was an iPhone until she looked on the back.

That Croydon Facelift has done nothing for her hairline. Sorry, you probably won't get that, US readers.

"There's more recession on that head than in the UK economy." There, that's better.

She doesn't have a forehead, she has a fivehead!

Edit: Decided to lookup Croydon Facelift
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croydon_facelift

I always wondered why girls with "fiveheads" wore their hair like this?!? (I do understand in the case of gymnastics.) My roommate does it. She's a very hot girl, but I can't get over the "fivehead" she's got and can't understand why she makes it so much more pronounced w/ her hairstyle?!

Oh, and back on topic....I never understood the facination w/ "Oooooooh! Is that celeb carrying an iPhone?!" myself either.
