Shutter -> I mean lose video frames when playing. Action (fast scenes) in movies does not play smooth.
It is noticable all the time in moving scenes, but not constant...

But what is most intrested is that i cant not play smooth this two video files (captured with iPhone 6s Plus Full HD 60FPS):

Tell me please if You know. Is this not enough strong hardware (Apple TV) or not fully optimized software?

I also tested with Infuse and same problem...

I've tested with the Maze Runner 1080p x264 RARBG video and I see no problems with it, for example scene at 39 minutes is moving a lot but is smooth an 24fps solid ! At 43:25 there is a camera traveling and I can notice small kind of slowdown but cpu is at 70% (of 200% as it has 2 CPU cores) and stats are showing 24fps ... Maybe it's a syncing problem because the tv has to show 23.96 fps but is designed to show 30 or 60 fps ...
I've tested with one of the iPhone videos, I have problems too, it's because it's a 60fps video and the CPU is running full speed for decoding but it's only decoding and showing 34-38 fps ... It's for sure a decoding capacity problem !

Just a precision in term of decoding capacities : iOS has a framework called video toolbox, it's allowing to use hardware decoding units that are in the CPU, but for some reason this framework is not yet available on tvOS ... But when it'll be available, decoding UltraHD or 60fps videos should not be a problem anymore ...

I can't seem to get this to connect to my Mac.

The Mac shows up in the server list, but when I enter the username and password, it doesn't work. Other computers on the network and Infuse are able to login to the Mac and access the files.

I originally had only one admin account on the Mac with no password, but since that didn't work, I added another admin account with a password. Still no go.

Any suggestions?

Infuse is terribly slow to start streaming, so I'm hoping to get this to work.

Which version of MacOS x are you using ? I can connect successfully on my Mac running El Capitan 10.11.2 !

Are you sure that you did enable smb file sharing for the newly created user ?
I'll make some tests with empty passwords when I'll get home !

For everyone : I've started beta testing for new iOS version of NAStify (which is now including SMB support), send me an email at codeisalie <at> gmail.com with subject "NAStify iOS beta testing" if you want to be part of the program !

I would be very much interested to know when this becomes available and is implemented in Nastify. Will keep following this thread.

Note that the hardware decoding units are only supporting x264 ! On the AppleTV 4, x265 decoding will remain a software decoding !

I don't care about x265 uhd etc., just smooth playback of high bitrate / high framerate hd videos - of which I have a bunch.

Ok it was just to tell everyone what can be expected from videotoolbox, and for sure it's what you are waiting for ;)
We just have to wait for Apple to include this framework in a future iOS update ...

Hi!

I had micro-stuttering with my ATV4 and a Samsung smart TV.

I found solution was to change HDMI port on the TV. You must not use the one called HDMI/DVI. Apparently this one expects a slightly different signal as if from DVI.

Many people re-name the HDMI port to PC and this works also. It sounds a bit wacky, but changing the name allows the settings to be changed from Default.

There are threads all over the web on this issue (and for overscan problems) such as this one:

I read that this problem affects other brands of smart TV, such as Sony, but I cannot confirm this.

I hope this helps somebody.

Actually, video toolbox will not help even IF it was permitted. My tests (under MrMC) show that it is no better/worse than using FFMpeg for software decode. Seems to suggestive that video toolbox is doing software decode.

@Sylver78, nice work on adding write/delete/rename to libdsm and pushing upstream :) Those were the last bits needed to start thinking about dropping libsmbclient from MrMC.

@Scott Davilla Interesting ... But let's see when it will be officially available in tvOS !
For libdsm, I've done a lot of debugging also ;) The last thing really missing is error codes for correct handling of error cases, but it should come soon :)

The other API (also not-permitted) does drop CPU by 2/3's. So it's defiantly hw accelerated.

Yea, little sparse on those in libdsm, ok, 0 or !0 or -1, or some nt_code :) And those internal asserts must die, nothing like blowing the entire app away to get your attention. hahaa.

Hi. Thanks for that possible solution.

For me cable and hdmi port is not a problem. I also checked with other (brand new) HDMI cable and different ports on different tvs.

But allways the same.

Maybe this help someone else... :)

For the HDHomeRun issue, could people with the problem test with latest VLC for iOS version (it was updated yesterday) ?

Just got back from vacation and only had time to try this now. I upgraded to the latest VLC for IOS and it still plays my HDHomeRun streams just fine.

Wow great app! Mkv and Avi working great through Apple TV 4 off a Mac mini using SMB file sharing over wifi. Some feedback, was initially trying to use ps3mediaserver but no luck getting that to work , nastify would connect fine and show the correct directories but would not show any video files. It did find and display jpgs and mp3s. The same video files I was trying to access would show up and play fine on PS3, doesn't really matter anymore for me as turned SMB file sharing on on the Mac mini and then everything worked great.

Possibly stupid question but how do you turn subtitles off?

Love the new favorites option!

I'm wondering if you have any plans to use cloud storage for settings. I have 3 apple TVs so it would be nice if the Nastify settings could sync somehow.

For anyone wondering, favorites feature is only available in the beta version for now ;)

The Favorites option is still subject to possible changes, I've done a separate tab for this but I'm not sure if it should be kept as a separate tab or as a new column in the Servers tab ... I also have to ask user for favorite name before creating it !
The goal of these favorites is to provide quick access to favorite places and also to configure some aliases for family members that are not technology friendly ;)

Wow 3 AppleTV
About iCloud settings sync, I've done this for one of my apps but there is one reason why I don't like this : user's privacy ! I also have to check if keychain sync is something working well ... I may consider implementing it but it'll not be on my top list !

Regarding favorites feature:

I would prefer a "splash" page (started page) where you just have the favorites and then a "Setting" link for the Servers etc.
However, I am still having some problems with playback. Especially after pause/rew/ff which mainly only happens on SMB (which has most of the features like favorites and delete). My content is MPEG2. I like the "delete option" since I use it for DVR Recordings. I am still using 3 Apps for my purpose because of different problems with each. Of course hoping for 1 app to do it all.

Having an issue with the lasted testflight beta released yesterday. Watching (from NAS via SMB) MKV file (Video: MPEG4 AVC Audio: A52 (aka AC3)) and I get no center channel audio but all the other channels seem to be fine (so no dialog - kind of important). I messed with all the ATV4 audio settings, setting loud noises on and off, surround sound auto and off, audio mode to 16 bit and auto - none made any difference.

I reinstalled the "release" version of NAStify from the App Store and it plays the file fine....I can watch a video with dialog again.
