Many on this forum don't realize how few people (in America) walk a mile in a day. Just a fact of life. I did a three month road trip May-July and did 11 national parks, 9 state parks, and 20 states. Let's just say I did a lot of miles. I'd say at least 10/day overall average.

Not all states have national parks
Considering that America has an obesity problem, it's not bad though not much of a workout.
A little incentive helps motivate people.
The 1 mile min. limit would at least get some lazy people to just go outside to do something which is better than nothing.
Anything that motivates people to get moving.

Exactly. The whole point is to get people moving. If this inspires a single person to put one foot in front of the other about 2,000 times in one workout, that’s a great thing. For fit people who think it’s weak, they can 100 times that if they want. People can be so judgemental

At least make it mandatory that the workout has to be outdoor type for this one. Just changing the number of minutes/distance isn’t a good differentiator between different badges.
Maybe those people who think it should be mandatory to do this or that should have a challenge where they walk in somebody else’s shoes.

Hike, walk, run, or wheelchair, but never a bike for some reason. Guess that explains why I have none of these one-day awards.

A mile?

1 Mile?

One mile?

FFS! I walk that far return to my nearest Waitrose! And that includes a stiff walk up the hill.
My elderly (75yo) neighbour does that every day.

Oh America… where a mile's walk is considered worthy of a digital badge of honour…

Agreed.

They don't want any liabilities. If they say 100 miles, then if someone dies or get injured in the process. They will get sued for something.

People should worry much more about diet. Can't outrun a poor diet.
100% Agree. 👍

Who said you could?
It's a very common misconception.
All those poor sods on the gym treadmills "burning off" their triple quadruple Big Macs with a side of fries and onion rings… They'd be on that treadmill for days. Days… (and that's just to burn off the ketchup calories.)
🤣

Moving more and burning off bad diet via exercise, separate things.

Do we just have to activate the outdoor walk through the fitness app on the watch and go for a 1.6km walk on the 27th to grant the badge/award?

(Sorry newish to the fitness aspects of the Apple Watch)

Yes and No. Yes to make sure it’s recorded, or No Because if you forget and you start walking, the Watch might say you’re on a walk and do you want to record the exercise.? So the answer is really yes, but it can remind you after you’ve started If you forget.

Thank you.

Only reason I ask is sometimes when I start a outdoor walk it refuses to count and fill in the Exercise rings.

Yeah it’s like that. I’m often walking around the city briskly and it reminds me, but sometimes it doesn’t. Handy when though when you're going for a hike.

Hope everyone got their National Parks Award 2022, this award is about inclusivity for people of lots of abilities and raising awareness, and not difficulty in achieving, of National Parks. Originally you were required to walk further 2017/2018 before the hiking activity even existed. I got mine by walking around a forest in Scotland, and I wasn't in a National Park here, but I still enjoyed my time outside.
