that's great to see thanks. yes, i only read the clip from the OP and not the link.

If you had read the press release linked to in the first post you would have seen the magic words "iPhone 3G and 3G S owners will soon be able to upgrade their NAVIGON MobileNavigator software with another free update that brings additional features. " Note the word 'free'? That means you won't have to pay for it!

GREAT Idea! That seems like an obvious feature that no one has mentioned. Every GPS I have ever owned has a signal indicator.

Plus a satellite display would be nice.. TomTom running on my Palm TX (using a bluetooth GPS unit) has this feature. I think it's going to require Apple to enhance their location API.. maybe in iPhone OS 3.1?

Agreed. iGO My Way has a GPS strength icon but I'd love to see a satellite constellation map indicating what satellites are in view.
The one thing that I do find helpful is that iGO places a small black dot on the map indicating the actual position of the GPS coordinates received. Sometimes it's off to the side of the actual road and the software snaps the vehicon to the road (all GPS's do this). You can also see how frequently it updates as well. Since it's showing the actual position reported by the GPS chip in the phone, you can see how accurate or inaccurate that chip is at any given time. 99% of the software is smart enough to snap to the road. If it wasn't there, I would never know that the actual position was slightly off.

I'm loving Navigon 1.1 and can't wait for 1.2 BUT I seem to have a problem that no one else has....

The Navigon voice simply stops working at different intervals. There is no rhyme or reason as to why it stops. I've tried everything from rebooting to not using the charger and still the voice prompts will simply stop at different points during navigation. (I know they stop because I push the square in the bottom left hand corner and "she" doesn't speak.)

It's bugging the hell out of me because everything else is perfect. I get a GPS connection in seconds and it stays constant. Rerouting happens flawlessly and I've never crashed.

Does anyone have any idea why my voice prompts simply stop working? Any help?

Thank you,

This was happening to me when the USB cable was connected to my car stereo. I realized later it was user error on my part. You have to select the input to USB for the voice to work when the USB cable is plugged in. If you have it plugged in and you're listening to FM, the iPhone will charge, the GPS will work, but you won't hear the voice.

^Agreed. This happened to me when I first got Navigon as well, and couldn't for the life of me figure it out until I made sure my car stereo had USB selected instead of the radio.

I love that you can set the volume on the Navigon voice to be lower when it guides you over the song that yor iPhone is playing...I was driving my friends into the city the other night, and they kept wondering why my "song" kept saying "Caution!" I had to tell them that that was the GPS telling me over the song that I was speeding at least 10 MPH over the speed limit...LOL.

I have no USB cable connected to my car stereo. I only have my iPhone connected to my car charger when using Navigon. (I haven't even tried running the iPod yet while navigating.) I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear in my original post.

As far as reinstalling the app, I hoped to make that my last option as the time to do this really chaps my ass. :)

Thank you for all the help guys. I greatly appreciate it. If anyone has any final ideas I'm all ears!

TTS, I can't wait for this! Any ideas when 1.2 will come out. Navigon is the best nav/gps app for the iPhone!

Just wanted to say:

I have been using Navigon with my iPhone for a few weeks now, and I've been using it with a ProClip angled mount which sits next to my stereo -- not exactly ideal positioning for a GPS unit. It's been working well, but sometimes when it lost the signal I thought it was due to the positioning. I bought a Griffin Windowseat in best buy today and mounted the iPhone in landscape with a much better view of the sky, and Navigon really works flawlessly now. It was good before, but now it's terrific.

The only down side is that it's difficult to navigate through my music in landscape (stupid coverflow). I mean, you can't even change playlists or anything unless you flip it to portrait...kind of annoying.

i bought the griffin window seat today as well at best buys! Navigon works like a charm with it! at first i thought my iphone gps chip was malfunctioning but i guess you do need a good mount and to position it on the window somewhere for it to work and that fixed everything! I love it!

Ouch :D $32 for that thing?

Some say that it doesnt stick as well and that you have to mount it high on the windshield or else it will keep falling off.

i hate the suction cup

i cant tell you how many times the who assemply unsticks from my windshield

hasn't happened yet, and it seems quite sturdy. i have the iphone holder resting sideways on my dash. that would be annoying if it started falling off though. Did you clean the windshield and suction cup with an alcohol pad first?

I would hope that Navigon would improve on the map backgrounds. I can't stand the ugly olive green background that it uses and it makes the small street names impossible to read

To even try and use this app in the day time, I had to switch it to night mode to hope to be able to read the street names. It's impossibe to use in day mode.

In my opinion Navigon at the moment is the best solution for TBT app in iphone. I have Navigon and TomTom on my phone, and was driving yesterday and tested both apps.

I like TomTom's UI and Map color way better, but with my TomTom it's lagging behind while navigating so much that it's pretty frustrating :( Navigon on the other hand is pretty precise, after turns both have a tiny lag but Navigon is still better. It seems TomTom lags like a hundred meters, it shows i'm making a turn while i have already gone past it.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I know that the TomTom app can be added on up to 5 phones. How about the Navigon app?
