I am lost...
So I pay for Comcast's cable TV service which owns NBC now, but I have to pay more to watch it?
Am I missing something?

I have HBO deliciousness, Disney+ juiciness, Apple TV+ goodness, and Netflix yumminess, but I guess those of us without Comcast will have no Pea-ness.

Pretty sure Jurassic Park is the greatest film of all time... but...

Agreed, but I already own the special edition bluray so this does nothing for me (and probably anyone who seriously loves that movie). And is still true that their “showpiece” movie is a movie from 1995.

To many streaming services. I’m happy with Philo Tv, Disney+ (ESPN+ and Hulu ), Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube premium, Pluto Tv and OTA. Anything else I get will be free. Not paying any more than I’m now.

why? Choice is good. More the merrier... now we have choices of what to subscribe to.

back in the day we had (its still thankfully sort of true here in Germany)different streamers but they all had the same stuff plus a few originals. The Big Bang theory for instance could be streamed anywhere. Now they are all taking their stuff away (in the US) to make their own streaming service cuz they don’t have enough new stuff to warrant it’s own platform otherwise. Friends was taking away from Netflix (world wide I think) but now it’s suddenly on Amazon Prime here. Annoying.

it’s as if Warner Music would take away its artists from Spotify to form its own music streaming platform while releasing only roughly 10 new albums in the first year, yet you would have to subscribe to be able to listen to your favorite artists even though you already had Spotify in the past

Remember the days when you didn't have to subscribe individually to a dozen channels just to watch telly?

Yeah... you used to pay $100/month for over 200 channels of Cable TV... yet most of those channels you never wanted. And you either had to watch it live as it was broadcast... or record it to a DVR box (that you had to pay extra for). And you could only watch it on the TV that the box is connected to.

Now you can pay between $7/month and $15/month for an entire streaming service... and watch tons of content on-demand, on any device. Plus... you get to decide which streaming service(s) you want. You don't have to subscribe to all of them.

It funny how people keep romanticising the old days of Cable TV.

Cable TV sucked.

:p

Too much is too much, as the launch of Quibi has shown!
Flying in the face of the fact that long form, high-quality shows like Game of Thrones & Walking Dead have found ENORMOUS popularity... if you think the new bastion of creativity from here on out is going to be in stories that can be told in under 10 minutes- ummm, better tear off that bandaid now... that’s simply not going to be the case.

I didn't really follow the launch of this. Were there any plans for a UK launch at some point?
I don't think there are plans to launch it beyond the US, as most of their content is already locally licenced in other countries. Too much hassle to claw all that back.

CBS All Access is available in Canada, but it doesn't have any Star Trek or The Twilight Zone. CTV and Citytv have those.

Cutting the cord isn’t the sensible choice for everyone. It’s for people who have very low demands for entertainment. As demands go up, it makes more and more sense to keep bundled cable.

I wouldn't say low demands for entertainment. Just specific tastes. Amazon Prime already loads me up on BBC content, documentaries, old movies, and some other new and old TV series. Netflix loads me up on more recent series I like. Sure there's stuff missing but there's more content every month than I can go through.

As far as cable goes. I'm down to the point were the only channel I watch is TCM. I can't bear to watch commercials anymore. That ship has sailed. Streaming spoiled me and I'd rather watch no TV than to have to sit through ads again. I only have cable because other people in the house watch it.

I just want this for Psych The Movie 2. The movie was ready end of last year, but they postponed it to be a Peacock draw. Everything else I don't really care about.

Up in Canada, we still don’t have any affordable way to stream live TV (to my knowledge). The only way to steam live tv is to subscribe to the cable companies (or Bell), which kind of defeats the purpose...

People who complained about the high price of satellite and cable for years are in store for some brutal surprises in how much the new model will cost...

Maybe if you subscribed to EVERY streaming service at once.

But only a couple?

You can get Disney+ and Netflix for around $20/month and have more content than you could ever watch in a single lifetime.

So which satellite or cable packages could you get for $20/month?

The reason satellite and cable packages were so expensive is because they bundled together hundreds of channels... most of which you never wanted anyway.

At least with streaming you get to choose which services you want.

Don't want Hulu? Don't pay for it.

But good luck trying to remove channels from your cable bundle. :p

Low demands just meaning don’t need a whole bunch of different channels/services, which would fall in line with your situation as well.

Hopefully it's not as bad as CBS All Access. How do you not have the whole run of your own shows?!

What CBS shows are missing? just because it was on CBS does not mean it was a CBS produced show

They have CBS produced shows on there with episodes an/or seasons missing. JAG for example.

As long as you request free Flex set top box from Comcast, yeah. You will need to return it when you cancel Comcast Internet, of course. But it's free at just about every Internet-only tiers.

I would prefer either tvOS app or Apple TV Channels though.
I had this link work, paid my bill and now i just get the link to review what is coming as an X1 customer.... except i'm not. Ye gads.

Why is this not an ATV channel??? Ohhh, because then they can't charge us $5/tv over 1 freebie.

That has always been the case with JAG, it didn't start on CBS and so it is a production company issue. There are also episodes that never play anywhere - I can't remember why, but there are blogs that talk about all the ins and outs of it.

That does not seem to be the experience of the majority. If you must subscribe to every streaming service then perhaps but that’s a crazy situation to put yourself in.
I was paying around $85au a month for tv drama and sports, I believe that’s more now. Plus you had to pay extra for HD, which I just refused to do as it should have been standard when 4ktvs were affordable.
I was until recently paying $45 approx a month for sport, Netflix and prime (which has other benefits) in the wake of Covid and sport stopping everywhere I’m now at $20. Another nice perk is no lock in contracts, I can stop the sport subscription as sports go in and out of season. This is also all in HD.
The only surprise is that I’m paying so little for a much better experience and in all honesty far superior content. With GOT gone theres no big draw anymore.

First season ran on NBC and it’s there on CBS All Access in its entirety. I’m not really concerned with the why, all I’m saying is we pay for a subscription we expect to get the content that you’d assume would come with it. What if Netflix didn’t have season 3 of House of Cards? Would “it’s complicated” or a “legal matter” satisfy people? Nope.

Disney is the same way. It’s not a far leap to assume people want X content from C provider. Especially given the crowded market.

Hooray! I can't wait to add this to my current subscription lineup, Netflix, Hulu, CBS, ESPN+, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Go and of course the regular local programming. I am saving a ton of money now that I cut the cord.

who told you, you had to sign up for all those services?

it is a far leap for those that don’t understand broadcasting rights. You can’t offer what you do not have rights to. This is the main reason Netflix started spending money on original content. And all other streaming sites followed.

content is expensive. Leasing rights to other people’s content is even more expensive.
