Looks like I'll be purchasing the entire series of The Office on iTunes prior to it being pulled from Netflix next year. I refuse to subscribe to more than 3-4 streaming services (currently have Netflix, Hulu w/ Live TV, Amazon Video and HBO Now). I don't see us deviating from those services anytime soon.

I can see this following a similar pricing structure as CBS All Access. $5/month with ads, $10/month for no ads.

Death by a thousand cuts, every network, and media company will have their own exclusive streaming service.

What's annoying is that those of us still paying for cable have to pay additional now to get these apps a lot of times to get full shows or series (looking at you, CBS). I'd love to cut the cord, but for what I pay for 300 channels and internet it's about the same as having to track what channels/services I get through whom and how many different payments I have to track.

Ugh we are very quickly moving back to the cable days here. Every network will have their own service. If you want everything, it will cost you the same as cable (if not more). I guess the only advantage is you aren’t forced to bundle together stuff you don’t want.
Cord cutting is no longer about saving money, it’s about choice. If you choose everything you’ll still pay the same price

Cable is the middle man. The middle man is going away. Companies will sell their content and station to you directly.

I never thought I’d miss the cable company. One price, lots of TV. A friend says you should check out a show on channel X? Tune in. Now? $4.99 a month for every bloody channel you want to see. Dozens of streaming services with some overlap, mostly not, and a mounting monthly bill for à la carte programming. And there’s no end in sight because no media copyright owner wants to give up their golden goose shows into someone else’s bundle. Steve Jobs might’ve thought he could leverage Apple’s distribution power to bring them to heel, but the streaming genie’s out of the bottle and they all want their little monthly fee taste. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop and networks to start charging per show. Poop.

For how long will old episodes of the Office and Parks & Rec be considered such valuable commodities? At this point in time it's very hard to imagine there are living human beings who haven't seen each episode 15 times already.

I've only just finished watching P&R on Amazon Prime and I am halfway through Season 3 of The Office (also on Prime)

I had never heard of P&R before so I just randomly watched the first episode and loved it straight away.

I put off watching the US version of The Office because I just love the original but I have to say I really love it so far...

looks like it’s time to break out the old VPN and dust off the torrent machine.

Thieves are bad people.

And this is why piracy will never die and will now be coming back. All this fragmentation again out of greed from each company will lead to the their own downfall

And people walk out of restaurants too. Bad people will be bad people.

Peacock will also house exclusive original shows, including a reboot of Battlestar Galactica from the creator of Mr. Robot, a Saved by the Bell revival, a Punky Brewster revival, a spin-off of one of The Real Housewives shows, and a new comedy from Mike Schur, creator of The Good Place.

I guess technically those all count as originals but all but one are just spin-offs and reboots.

So this is how they'll keep us using cable TV - just create a thousand different streaming services, all exclusive to their own content. Unless all these streaming services offer service for like $1-5, it will eventually be cheaper just to keep cable.

This whole thing is getting out of hand... I think in time once all these networks realize the demand just isn't there, they'll have to change their approach, but right now, they're all in panic mode, and the netflix/prime model seems to be what their customers are leaving them for. All theses services are just knee-jerk reactions to the changing industry.
What's so bad is that these networks are already making a lot off of their deals with services like Netflix et al. It's not like people aren't watching their content. But instead of a piece of the pie, they want the whole thing.

If they charged per show maybe the crappy ones would die off.

I’m with you mostly but why is it greedy for a business to be expected to be paid for something they have created? Do you give your work away for free? If so, my lawn needs mowin’

Not sure why everyone is up in arms about the name. NBC has always had a Peacock logo...

First time I had noticed the "beak" in there, actually. :p
