Oh you must be new to MR. The most talked about topic was a la carte. A lot of people here had fantasies of paying a max of $5 per channel!!!!! LOL

And when people like me said that was a fantasy and it would be way more expensive.... we were shouted down.

Point being the market responded to the demand.

Not new here, and I agree with you. I read the comments on cutting the cord, and I always thought it was a stupid idea.

For me it was never about paying $1 or $5 per channel, it was that most Cable TV channels I don't watch. They call get bundled together and subsidized as part of the terms for Cable companies to pick up a couple well watched channels. Even channels I used to like, like Discovery and Science Channel have become complete garbage. Remind me again what is on The Learning Channel?

You want your local ABC station? Great, but we are going to force you to bundle ESPN and Disney and our other networks on your basic tier.... oh, and for ESPN channels, that will be $27 to add to your customers bills. So for a basic cable TV package, I am forced to pay for ABC (I don't watch), ESPN (I don't watch sports), and Disney (Again, I don't watch). Why would I want that? If they had an unbundled service where I could pay $5 for a single channel from ABC/Disney Corp that I actually wanted to watch, fine..... but $27 (last I heard) for all of their sports channels forced upon me to subsidize the price for sports fans, no thanks. Oh, they have to pay high licensing fees to professional athletes earning tens of millions a year it super expensive stadiums where the owner needs to make a huge profit? Not my problem either. Don't pass your costs down to me, I don't care about any of it.

With my cable TV I currently only watch 2 news channel, which I really wish I could get with one of my streaming services I pay for because I could ditch cable TV. My XM radio also includes those, I've been considering switching to audio only to eliminate the cable bill.

Don't even get me started on a "Regional Sports Fee" that you can't opt out of. I hate watching sports!
