Turn off edge, wifi, 3g on iPhone

Actually, u can turn off EDGE, WiFi, 3G other internet connections when you are overseas etc. But the trouble is that your iPhone needs to jailbreak. The quickest way to do so is using WinPwnGui120. Well, if you have your iPhone jailbroken, den just install the "BossPrefs" from Cydia and it will show u the things you want to off or on.

Hope that might help!! :)

Holy thread resurrection Batman.

You don't need to jailbreak, just go to settings > general > network and turn data roaming off. That will allow the use of WiFi but not any cellular data when you're abroad.

Oh... I didn't really notice that, anyway, i thought data roaming is off once we purchase the iPhone?

But thanks for it anyway...:)

You can call AT&T and ask them to suspect Edge service. When you are back in the US, call them to turn it back on.
You need to call them for that...? Don't they have a control panel where users can DIY? The Swedish carrier Telia lets users log in and enable/disable services attached to their phone plan. Like,

Call waiting on/off
Data on/off
Voice mail on/off
MMS on/off
etc.

Anyway, this thread is redundant now that Apple has added a data roaming switch in 2.0, but I gotta say... Apple apologism is quite a fascinating phenomenon. Rather than do the obvious thing and A) identify the lack of an EDGE on/off setting as a glaring omission on the part of Apple, and B) complain to Apple about it, people bend over backwards to come up with awkward workarounds. Stuff like...

- Take out the SIM card when surfing.
- Bring a secondary phone and move the SIM card between the two.
- Buy a local SIM card and use it in aforementioned secondary phone.
- Use mobile terminal and issue ifconfig if1 down to kill EDGE.
- Call your carrier and have them disable EDGE temporarily.
- Enter a fake EDGE network name to produce a 'not subscribed' error.
- Enable SIM PIN.
- Jailbreak your phone and install BossPrefs.

All very creative, but really... WTF? This was Apple's fault and it should have been their headache, not yours.

Perhaps you are mis-reading the posts in this thread, because I just don't see much "Apple apologism" here.

Pretty much everyone agrees Apple dropped the ball by not having a simple setting to turn off EDGE, which was your point "A". So, what exactly would you have us do? It sounds to me like you would've preferred to see hundreds of posts saying "Apple sucks!"

Instead, people suggested several ways to work around the problem, so that everyone could avoid unnecessary charges without waiting for a fix from Apple/AT&T. Oh, and I'm sure there was also plenty of complaining to Apple. You just didn't see a lot of it here, because posting it here wouldn't have helped anyone.

I don't know, but that seems like a much more mature and productive reaction than your plan.
