I would sell the sony laptop and get a MBA rev a off the refurb part of the apple store for $1149. Would be a perfect 2nd laptop with the iMac.

So what did you get???
And why do you want an Escalade???
If you are spending good money, you might as well get
a nice BMW.

I got $600 in cash.
I am getting the Escalade or Yukon because my family needs a big car and I would drive it on the day to day basis since it would be a lease.

How about you don't ask for anything?

How about you be happy with what you have?

How about you give half your stuff to charity?

How about you pay Mommy and Daddy back?

So your family needs a big car (not sure why an Escalade or Yukon are the only big cars, but whatever), but you're driving it daily? That doesn't line up.

I'd save the money for a rainy day, and play with your existing toys.

I agree..Don't ask for too much as right now you have plenty. Maybe some books would be nice.. Don't you ever realize howmany hours and days your parents have to work to earn all those money? And yet your asking what you should get for your birthday and plus you're already getting an iMac for christmas..No offense but I think your just taking things for granted..especially on the buying stuff..

Let's not bash the kid. I am however confused why a kid whose parents can afford to give him every console, a frickin' plasma TV, along with a shazzam of other goodies, chooses a POS car like an Escalade. At least buy a proper car like a Mercedes!

I hate to say it, but it looks like lots of money with really no sense of taste...

I want so badly to believe that children like this do not exist in the world.

If...if I close my eyes will he be gone when I open them? Please? Someone help?

Please let this not be real. I'm begging. On my knees. Groveling. Make it stop...

This is actually really common. When a family wants a big car for trips but both parents have smaller cars to save on gas, they give their kid a big car because they don't put a lot of miles on it, and then it can be used for trips. That's what ended up happening in my family, I got a Toyota Sequoia with the though that I'm only going to put ~5k on it a year and it can still be used to travel.

I didn't think of that. Our family doesn't have big cars, so I never would have imagined.

That doesn't veer away from the fact that the OP is spoiled.

Why is everyone bashing this kid. Maybe his parents are very wealthy and love to see how happy he is when he gets these new things. If anything you guys are jealous so you are making fun of him. I am 16 and i am kind of in the same boat as him. I am fortunate to have two parents who are doctors and can afford a bunch of things. I am going to assume this kid does not go begging to his parents that he needs new things. I basically have what this kid has excepts for all the game consols (only have a 360) and a pretty nice car. I have all of this and I damn well know the real world will be tough so you cant just say this kid has no idea what it will be like. If your parents showered you with gifts would you not accept a few of them?

Actually my parents can afford a lot of things. However since I care about their well-being and quite frankly I'd rather be able take care of myself. They are paying for college (which costs more than the freakin' Escalade!), which I'm thankful for. Apart from that, I'd rather they invest in stuff when it's cheap right now and retire healthy and happy.

If my parents started gifting me right now I'd definitely say no. At least even in modesty ;)

Yes it's possible I may envy the kid once in while, but I find giving TVs, a zillion consoles, etc is an excuse not to spend time with your kids. If you're a good parent you take you kids out to the ballpark, maybe a concert, traveling to learn about the world.

Maybe I have a difference perspective, so that's my 2 cents.

Yeah i am in the same boat as you. I could get a lot more than i have, but i know there is no reason to. I dont see the need for 5 different gaming devices.

to the OP If you are into sports maybe ask for some jerseys of your favorite player or tickets to a game.

I believe (I'm sure with many), that it's much more rewarding to work for something than to have it given to you. My parents split the cost for my car in high school (was around 4K), but by working and paying for it, I respected it 10 times as much. It's great to receive nice things, but I also have limits on what I feel I can accept. With the amount of stuff that OP has, I find it fascinating that he has the time to play with all of it, let alone spend any time with his parents or family.

And even though it sounds like this kid has WAY more than I have, I look at myself and am amazed how much more I have than most of the world. We complain about Apple bringing out a new $500-$1000 product we want to buy, while a family in Africa is hoping there will be bread on the table by sundown.

Think about it, it's all relative.

On a side note, I worked and saved up for my new Macbook Pro, which is being shipped as I type! :)
