Go to ipsw.me and find the right image for your device. Go to iTunes and when you click "Restore", hold the CMD key and it will give you the option of using the downloaded file. This should work if the automated restore process isn't.
I had to do this with my iPad Pro last week when I downloaded the botched iOS 10 OTA update. The regular iTunes restore process kept failing so I had to manually install it. Worked fine after that.
Have you tried the install on a different computer?

saying here error 16 = hardware failure. I would contact Apple. Applecare will help you out with it they did screenshare (mac) with me the other day when I had battery issues. Helps them a lot to diagnose the issue quicker so you're both on the same page even though you're complicit as them in this regard.
Should not have to be that way. Apple should give us a way that we can we re-store our messed up downloads without having a computer. Didn't Tim Cook say that the iPad Pro would be our notebook replacement? I got rid of my MacBook Pro, and I have now a iPad Pro for that purpose. So what happens if I have a messed up download on my iPhone or iPad Pro?
Don't use 3rd party cables with your 7 until they become more compatible is my suggestion.
You must remain friends with someone who still owns a computer.
My nan and grandad are fellow retiree's and they've got more apple products than me! what you on about! I'm specifically jealous about my nans 27" iMac. It's such a stunner.Actually I live in retirement community and no one has an Apple product, just Windows. Shouldn't have to be this way but an easier method to fix your iOS device without having another computer.

bricked - means your device is now useful as a doorstop, or the equivalent of a brick, if it turns on it's not bricked.
Put it in DFU mode pre-iPhone 7 hold home and power until the device shuts off, release only the power button and hold home until you see the connect to iTunes logo.
For iPhone 7 same process but hold down the volume down button instead of home.
Connect to iTunes and you'll get a prompt, we found a device in recovery mode.. blah blah blah... Restore the iPhone, (from backup or fresh install is your pick). Wait until your phone is restored. iTunes will need to download the iPhone firmware which may take a while depending on your Internet connection.
I was doing everything your saying but when I got to the part where you connect to iTunes it said there is a problem with your phone and you need to restore. When I hit restore or update it kept coming up a minute or later saying there was an error and it would have a code associated with it and it couldn't complete or continue. That's when I thought the thing was toast....
If you see error 1671, iTunes is downloading necessary software and you need to wait for the download to finish. To see when the download will finish, click the arrow in the upper-right corner of iTunes.

Since you are receiving a bunch of error codes, what is the most recent? Look up the error code (e.g. search: iTunes 1671) and see why you are receiving those error messages.
For example 1671, from looking it up, says your Antivirus is outdated on your PC or Mac (or just blocking the connection), you are using a low speed usb connection, the update is not valid for your device, if there are too many USB devices connected to your computer, or your iOS software is just too old (which is obviously not the case).
Go through that list, try using a different USB port with no other devices connected to your computer.
Now I did another check from Apple's iTunes Error webpage (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203174) and found this
Since plenty of people likely "could care less" about something like that, it's not likely to happen...and in fact that usage will (unfortunately) likely become incorporated into the definition of "bricked" at some point, kind of like "literally" came to also mean the very opposite of itself, literally.I wish people would stop throwing the term "bricked" around incorrectly.

Didn't know what else to call what happened to my phone sorry...
