Hello -

I need some help to get this working. Kinda embarrassing on me that after years of usage of mac, i am not able to make it work.

My setup :

1. Mac Mini M2 connect on home wifi network and logged in with my icloud ID.
2. MacBook Air M3 connected on same home wifi network and logged in with my icloud ID.

Both are running on the latest public release of mac os sequoia.

Help I need: I want to be able to remote log in to my MacBook (and view its screen to work) with its lid closed when it is comfortably sitting somewhere in my home.
I have enabled "wake to network access" even when on battery.
I have also enabled screen share by selecting that option from sharing settings.

Challenge i am facing:
1. the MacBook goes to sleep and doesn't wake up. I need to open the lid, wake it up, unlock and then connect from Mac Mini.
2. The IP address changes all the time. Somehow the MacBook is not detected by the name.
3. The home network is running on 300 mbps wifi but still the screen is very jittery and screenshare app hangs many times.

Thanks for the advise on how to make this work.

Cheers !!

As for the IP address change change the network settings change "Configure IPv4" from "Using DHCP" to "using DHCP with manual address". If your router is set to start assigning IP address at, say 10.0.0.50 then you can assign manual addresses, 1 per system, up to 49.

FWIW I frequently remote in to my two Macbooks from my iPad Pro 12.9, sometimes while all on same network at home and sometimes while away from home.

I use Screens5 with Tailscale and sometimes Jump Desktop and they work brilliantly both at home and away. Both will remote into a closed sleeping Mac.

You won’t be able to use Screen Sharing to connect if the lid is closed and the computer is asleep. Even if you’re able to initially connect, the remote computer will keep going to sleep and disconnect you.
