Come on you know you wanted the mac all along... for god sake this is a pretty bi est forum, MAC rumors =P. Well I hope your convinced to take the plunge. Good luck!

If mac wasnt a choice, I'd sue Microsoft for antitrust purposes. just kidding. i'd choose a dell xps or an hp. alienware is also a good choice. although alienware is designed for gaming... but CAD won't put much of a dent on the cpu usage. so in short, i'd go for alienware, if not an option, then hp, and then dell xps. if there wasnt a mac. macs my first option, since 4GB ram is plenty to run vmware fusion and the macbook pro has a great gpu and cpu. For those of you still saying nivida gpu = death, its not true. they said the older units have gpu failure, the gpus just fabricated are clean of defects.

i have a desktop i purchased last year and its a fine pc for rendering, nothing i might do except add another 2gb to make it 4gb, or maybe a better GPU.

But what do u guys think about tigerdirect.ca? i found a 1999$ pc which has the same specs of the high end macbook pro 17", and its has a quadro card. so i might just go for that if the macbook pro isnt fixed or good enough when its redesigned and out.

but again thanks for everything, last thing i could ask you, is if you have a direct link to a computer with a special deal or any website i should look at which could help me choose what specs i need for a professional CAD laptop.

The important thing to note is that the PC alternative he was talking about had a potentially affected GPU as well. So picking one over the other (between the MBP and the Alienware he posted) because of the fear of GPU failure would be pretty ignorant.

i have all the required software and all, i just need a computer :p
thats what this whole thing is about

ok forget alienware from this title thread, if mac was not a choice, what would i get?

Putting the Mac aside, you can get decent Windows based laptops from HP and Dell, just be sure to choose their business selections rather than their home ones. I also like Samsung laptops, we've issued these to Windows users at work in the past and they seem to be reasonably hard wearing and perform well enough. Also I haven't had a lot given back due to faults, so reliability seems to be decent enough.

LandCAD

I'm a Landscape Design student, and a hardcore Apple fan. I was wondering if LandCAD would work using VMware's Fusion or some other such software, or if I would be better off buying a PC.

I could get a MacBook and a PC desktop or notebook for about the same price as a MacBook Pro, but everything would be separate. That has its own series of pros and cons...

This dillema is something that I've been pondering for months. I just don't know enough about LandCAD yet to make an informed decision, but reading this thread did help me weigh out my options a bit.

If anyone here has first hand experience using LandCAD on a Mac, please let me know what you think. I would really value any solid feedback.
