Ohh. There is an easy solution to this. Look up symbolic links. You could make the music folder in iTunes on the ssd and the movies and ios apps on the external HD with one iTunes library.

Thanks for the suggestion. ITunes doesn't like symlinks. It can find the files, but it wont put new files in symlinked folders. And it definitely won't work for the Mobile Apps folder. Downloads fail and when I leave the downloads folder intact, things download but never move to their proper folder if it is symlinked.

I'm now using an Automator script to watch the Mobile Applications folder on my SSD and move files that are deposited there to my external drive. Need to tear what happens when the drive is not there or when the Mobile App file is needed, whether it will ask me to locate it.

This is so crude.

If I may ask, why do you carry around so much data? Do you actually need it at all times?
