This is my first post :)

I am an iphone newbie, a friend of mine bought me an iphone during christmas. The iphone was already unlocked but I have no idea what method was used to unlock it. It is currently in 1.1.2 and I wanted to upgrade it to 1.1.4.

    Here are a few clues:

The phone is made on the 50th week of 2007.
    It has an installer.
Within Installer -> Install, I found iClarified
Within iClaified, there are anySIM1.2u, anySIM1.3, Baseband Eraser (1.2) Baseband Updater, BootNeuter, Soft 1.1.3 Jailbreak, SyncFix (Dev 1.1.3 Jailbreak), Unlock (1.1.4) and a few other patches.

I am very confused about all the files under iClarified inside the iphone. What would be my best option to upgrade to 1.1.4? get from iTune or restore to 1.1.4 and unlock again? wait for WinPwn?

Please give me some help ;) Appreciate It

First of all. Which type of computer do you have? Mac or PC?

Second, what version of iPhone software you have is irrelevant as of these times. It is best that you update all the way to 1.1.4 and then use Pwnage tool (or WinPwn for Windows) to Unlock, Activate and Jailbreak.

    I have a PC.

Are you saying I should RESTORE to 1.1.4, then use WinPwn to unlock, activate and jailbreak?

For WinPwn, would it be easier if I wait for the full version with the unlocking feature?

I used WinPwn on 3 iPhones so far, all work without problem (including mine). It's a bit longer though since you have to download BootNeuter from Installer, but WinPwn does the job.

Yes, you should Restore to 1.1.4 and then use Winpwn.

    Thanks for your reply.

    From the first thread:
If you do not have 1.1.4 then I recommend you update to 1.1.4 using iTunes (also to familiarise yourself with the restore process) as normal then run the pwnage tool.

You can pwn your phone without restoring first from 1.1.4

    1. Click the "Browse .ipsw" button.

    2. Select the 1.1.4 restore - on mac it is in the

I am a bit confused about this. It says I should update using iTunes as normal. Then there is a 1.1.4 restore after that.

    Should I:
    1. Update using iTunes to 1.1.4 then do a 1.1.4 restore using the .ipsw file
    2. Do a 1.1.4 restore using the .ipsw file even though I have 1.1.2 at the moment

Sorry about asking lots of stupid questions. Just want to make sure.

It only takes about 5 minutes to start from 1.1.4, but I don't think it really makes a difference

No no, it's worth doing it. I am saying that I would restore to 1.1.4 before starting just for the piece of mind. Also make sure not to choose "restore from backup" if iTunes ever offers it to you, this is not usually good when upgrading jailbroken iphones

So should I use the second way to do it?

    1. Update using iTunes to 1.1.4 then do a 1.1.4 restore using the .ipsw file
    2. Do a 1.1.4 restore using the .ipsw file even though I have 1.1.2 at the moment

Just restore to clean 1.1.4 first (before you do anything). I am not saying it is 100% necessary because I am not positive, but it sure as hell won't hurt and it only takes a minute.

nomar383, thanks so much for your help. The only thing that still confused me is how I can restore to clean 1.1.4. Because I saw in the WinPwn tutorial that you have to download the .ipsw file and use iTune to open it so that the iphone is restored to 1.1.14, but is this the way to do it?

    Step 1: Open iTunes
    Step 2: Connect iPhone
Step 3: Select "Restore" from the iPhone page
Step 4: Wait a few minutes
    Step 5: Done!

BTW once you do this the .ipsw file will be stored on your computer, so you won't need to redownload it from Apple to do Pwnage

I think the file is in the iTunes directory somewhere after you restore. I would give you the exact location, but I primarily use OS X :)

No problem, my goal is to get every iPhone user to fully benefit from every penny of that purchase :)
