I have a friends macbook pro because they asked me to reload osx onto it since someone had messed up while attempting to set up windows xp on dual boot. I think this will be easy but something is wrong with the front of the computer where the cd is inserted. It seems to be smashed and i would have to force a cd into it and probably would never get it out. So is there a way to reload the os without the cd drive? Or does anyone have any suggestions to help me around this dilemma?

Use an external USB or Firewire optical drive.

Another option would be to create an image of the install DVD on an external drive partition and startup on it.

When you repartition the MBP's drive, make sure to set the partition table to GUID (it should still be, but there are some scenarios where that's been inadvertently changed to MBR during a failed BootCamp Windows install).
