Thanks. will I be able to connect a 24" Samsung monitor to my G5 with a DVI (on the G5) to the monitor (hdmi) using a DVI to HDMI cable?

Possibly, but every card and monitor is different. They may not like each other and refuse to work together.

Wow nice. I want mine even more now. How's the machine doing? :p

Is it best to have Tiger or Leopard running on it?

I see, what's wrong with running Tiger on it? :p

Tiger is more outdated then Leopard and can't run as many new things as Leopard can. A G5 is well suited for running Leopard. They are powerful and can hold lots of ram. Two things Leopard loves.

The first model is obsolete, but the June 2004 one and newer are vintage. They will all likely become obsolete very soon.

Obsolete means that Apple will no longer service the device. Vintage means that they will service it, if they have parts still in stock for it. Supported means they will service it.

I'm not exactly sure when the Support>Vintage>Obsolete occurs or what the criteria are.

My 2005 I think is obsolete

I need hard drive help. See the OP

:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

I'm not too familiar with cloning drives, but do you have a 3rd drive you can back everything up to then swap the drives? Install Windows then move everything in place?

Is your parent's computer an off the shelf model or home made? If it's off the shelf, it may have an OEM copy of Windows. I've heard they're sometimes tied to the hard drive, so moving it around might mess things up.

When are you getting the SSD? Could you just wait? Also, noisy hard drives are sometimes an indication of failure coming soon. Might not be good to pop that in your parent's PC.
