[Need Windows related help!] Need a desktop. EDIT: Bought a powermac g5! Need help!

Is your parent's computer an off the shelf model or home made? If it's off the shelf, it may have an OEM copy of Windows. I've heard they're sometimes tied to the hard drive, so moving it around might mess things up.

When are you getting the SSD? Could you just wait? Also, noisy hard drives are sometimes an indication of failure coming soon. Might not be good to pop that in your parent's PC.

Already got the ssd. I have my os on there and my home folder on the other drive. I don't have a third drive (sold all my drives thinking I would buy a new one, then bam. Hard drive prices skyrocket) so I can't back everything up.

It was off the shelf but I made them buy a windows 7 copy off new egg when it came out. I don't have the windows 7 anymore which is why I need to clone it.

If the hard drive fails. It could be a good thing. They would have no idea I took the drive and I can have them buy a new one. Everyone wins. They can afford them, I cant!

I should be getting my G5 today. My dad said "don't waste your money on vintage Apple stuff" but he was cool with the purchase. I can't wait to get my G5. Should I post photos up later?

Yes OWC RAM are pretty much overpriced, but my ebay experience was not so good. I bought a 4GB kit and when they came, it never worked. Bought from OWC and it just worked.

The risk is just greater buying on ebay than buying from a legit third party part supplier.
 
I don't have my G5 yet. The seller on eBay dispatched it on Wednesday via Yodel (a **** delivery company).

Ahh well, he said he'll chase it up tomorrow and if it's lost or something then I should get a refund.

I hope the G5 gets to me okay sometime next week :(

How much did you spend on it? If he refunds you maybe you can get a faster one
