I have the option of getting a brand new Grey Ceramic Series 3 (Apple replacement) with AC (not Plus) until Sept 2019 or the Series 4 Stainless Steel Gold (obviously new).

The price would almost be the exact same, the Ceramic would actually be about 15% cheaper.

What would you guys do?

If I was feeling flush, I'd accept the ceramic and not take it out of the wrapping. Auction it off in 10 years time or whenever was appropriate.

In the meantime I'd buy an AW4. Screen really does look a lot better from what I can see in the reviews. Just a posher experience all round.

Apple have offered you a ceramic replacement or Series 4?

Definitely SS AW4. If it was a non-electronic watch then maybe ceramic. With electronics it's always a good idea to get the latest one. We already know from iphone battery that apple plays dirty with older versions of their electronic devices.

I'm a big fan of the Series 3 ceramic, as I think it is an exceptionally well made product and I have loved mine. That said, I would make my decision based on screen real estate. If you can see yourself with eight or nine complications on the screen, and you actually track that many things with your AW, I would opt for the Series 4. Alternatively, if it's a notifications and communications device that is your priority, I'd opt for Ceramic. And if you like/need the heart monitoring, the Series 4 is a no brainer.

Honestly the Series 3 looks like it came straight out of a Fisher-Price catalog compared to the S4.

It really doesn't! I personally think the Series 4 looks a little like the Pebble Time and not 100% sure on the look. The ceramic as a material was perfect and not having a Series 4 one is pretty disappointing.

I bought the grey ceramic last year. I really loved it. For a day. Then I realised there’s nothing you can do with it. Not many straps work with it, unlike the SS. The grey ceramic looks like shiny plastic. And suddenly you think you’ve basically got a kiddie version of the AW.

Personally I’d always go for the newer model.

I'm a non-ceramic owner, so take this with a grain of salt. I would go with the Series 4 Stainless Steel. I've loved all of my stainless steel Apple Watches (OG, S2, S3)...they look great and with the extra speed, larger screen, and additional features of the S4, I think you'd appreciate it more. I don't know how much return the premium material of the ceramic gets when it comes to resale, but I think the Apple Watch typically has lower resale value than most other Apple Products.

Well said. Such a tough call. I had the Series 2 Ceramic and it was awesome.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

In all honesty: I’m a S0 owner. And as soon as the S4 came out I can’t help but think that my watch looks a bit eary 2000s now...

Is it an aluminium by any chance? The ceramic looks fantastic, even with the Series 4 being released. Nothing compares to the durability of the ceramic, especially for the gym. Wearing a SS watch down the gym..... Hmmmmm, no.
