Thanks very much godisjustpreten for the reply.

To clear things up, I DO deserve a brand new one, as it was bought brand new with a faulty screen that was due to no mistake of my own.

I'll restore my iPod, put my music back on and then get some proof pictures and videos that will help show the problem. If the genius doesn't give me a NEW one then I will talk to the manager and raise my voice:)

Sorry. I didn't intend to imply that you were specifically saying you don't deserve it. There are tons of threads in this forum with people saying that they received the refurb exchange stock. They seem to have a "well, that's how Apple operates" attitude. It's odd. When I drop hundreds of dollars on something. I feel as though I should get a product that works and does not have manufacturing flaws. I walk into Apple (or anywhere else) fully expecting to get exactly what I want. Calm confidence goes a long way.

You probably won't need to raise your voice. As I noted in another thread, just let them know that you *will* be leaving the store today with a *new* sales stock Touch. Ask them how you can make the process easier for them.

Thanks. I definately agree with getting what you paid for etc. And I'll make sure they know that I will be leaving with a new one.

Thank you very much for your help (sorry my other posts were a bit confusing).

Can anybody think of any particuarly dark trailers to films or videos that I could put on my iPod to test, and show the apple genius?

I have the Atreyu album cover, the www.lagom.nl contrast image test and 'The Longest Yard' film, but it would probably be easier with a shorter video, instead of trailing through it to find a dark scene.

Thanks!

You still haven't taken it in to the apple store?

Well, I went to the Apple store today and explained my problem. Two 'Genius's' were aparantly not convinced by my 'claims' telling me that nothing is wrong at all, and any videos or pictures I had to prove the case were 'not from iTunes' so therefore not made for the iPod.

I asked about replacing it for a new one, but they said that all of their replacements come staright from the Apple store, and ARE new, and not refurbished. I just accepted it, and came home with a week 50.

I just plugged it into iTunes (about 5 minutes ago) and simply tried to navigate, but the screen wasn't responding!! I turned it off, and back on, and it seemed to be responding, but then again stopped!!

I'm going to leave it to charge for 3 hours or so and then give it all a try I think, and if its not right will contact Apple directly, instead of going to their lame 'Genius' bar.

I had way more luck with Apple directly over the phone than at the genius bar. The 'geniuses' were pretty defensive with me when I tried telling them about the negative problem on my phone. If you call apple, theyre gonna make you send it in for repairs - do that. It'll get back to you in 2 days. After that, more than likely theyll send it back the same stating that they 'can not reproduce the problem'. Call Apple again and insist on speaking to a technician and nicely ask them if you can have a replacement. This worked for me, and I was calm with them throughout the whole ordeal and did A LOT of waiting on the phone. Out of all the employees I spoke to only ONE was kind of rude. Good luck :)

I am so f****** p***** off with Apple!

Also, I was given a receipt with the 'new' iPod, saying 'Warranty effective through Apr 11, 2008' when it was only bought at christmas!!!!!
Below that it says 'Unit price: £118'

This is a 16gb iPod Touch, what the hell?

I want to phone the Apple repair, but live in the UK so will this make a difference?

Which numbers do I need etc as I would like to call them now.

lagrom.nl/lcd-test/small test bars

What does the contrast test supposed to look like on lagrom.nl/lcd-test/small?
I think I have problems on mine too. Here is a picture of what it looks like on my iPod.
(Sorry for the bad quality, it's from my phone camera)

I don't know if you can see it, but there are bars of colors. I don't know if it was supposed to be a clean transition of colors or it the bars of shades are right.
Someone help?

It's fine stop looking for problems.

I still wait for mine but when i sent my old one to repair they didn't said they cannot reproduce the problem. As soon as they had it they said "issue identified" and now i'm "Product replacement pending"

Are you joking? The test is from http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/small, correct? If so, it tells you how to determine if there is a problem:

"All color bars (from 1 to 32) should be visible and distinguishable from their neighbors."

Your screenshot excluded the most relevant piece of information: the numbers (1-32).

I'm going to ring Apple later today and try to send mine off like you did Cortex. Did you use the number from their site, or a special repairs one?

Well I called the Support and Service and a box is coming in two business days.

Just thought i would chime in an report that my iPod seems to have a properly working display. I went to all the directed websites and everything looked goooood.

I'd just keep it Cortex. I looked at some in the Apple shop and I'm pretty sure that they all must be like that. Me and you are probably looking too close. Even though a few people tested the picture for me, and said it was fine, it could have been because they didn't compare it to when it is viewed on the PC.
