I have the Indigo 512GB Neo. I do not regret buying the indigo from the outside or keyboard deck/ touchpad appearance point of view but the fact that they colored the keys in two tones of blue (light blue keys with dark blue symbols) makes them more difficult to see in low light conditions. This is exacerbated by the lack of a back light. The keyboard looks nice but I think this is an example of form over function. And yes I am well past retirement age so my eyes are not as good as they used to be in poor lighting conditions. However, I do touch type but occasionally I have to find the odd key for control functions, for example, and it can be a pain in poor light.

I have a Midnight Blue M2 MBA 16/1TB, so I could not justify buying a Neo. But I was (still am) seriously lusting after the Citrus Neo. Why? Because it harkens back to the fun colors of the fruity-colored iBooks--the ones with the handle.

Indigo is way too close to the color of my MBA. In fact, when I went into Best Buy to look at the Neos shortly after they came out, I looked at the Citrus and then right next to it was what I thought was Indigo; turns out it was a MBA (presumably Midnight Blue).

Why are you having a laptop in the first place then? How does the color matter?
I have a laptop because it works best on my desktop and I sometimes travel and it's nice having the laptop to handle things away from home. The choice of color is crazy for me I admit. Thanks for your comment!

I Also have a M5 MBA that I purchased (Silver) then I saw the Silver Neo and it reminded me of the first laptop I ever purchased....... a white iBook G4 I believe around 2002. So I purchased that one too. Then I saw all the videos for the Citrus and now I like that color. I think my OCD is in overdrive. LOL

The MBA is definitely better than the MacBook Neo. But that is expected. I switch off between the two hooked up to a 27" Dell monitor.

I learned how to type in high school using a manual typewriter. No dainty touch typing, because unless you give the keys a good whack, it won't imprint. It took me years to break the 2 space after a period/full stop habit.

Lots of thing from my time didn't age well. Girls didn't take shop class and boys take home economics class. I very much regret not taking home economics class in school as I had to learn how to sew and cook on my own. Those aren't girly tasks. They're important life's skills.

You must be the minority. If colors didn't matter we'd all still have beige computers.
When they first invented cars, I believed you could get any color as long as it was black; I think that is what may grandfather told me. LOL

Color does matter. It helps regulate our emotions and can influence our day. Nothing is more beautiful than a cloudless sunny day. I'll take those colors over a cloudy day.

I'm 73 yoa with "iffy" eyesight too, and my Neo is the indigo also. Problem solved with a keyboard cover that came with a case I bought for the device. Check out photo . . . . . lol there's your post. I bought the case on Amazon, and will be happy to send you the link.

That looks very cool ! I've seen them online at Amazon. You know, from what I read, those cases you put on the laptops are not supposed to be good. Especially laptops that don't have a fan, like the Neo.

I've had this case for a week or more (?) and it's great. The MBN is not heating up at all. :=)

That's good. I like the cases, just never purchased onw for that reason. Good luck with it. I believe if you don't push the laptop, it won't overheat. Mine doesn't overheat because I just do spreadsheets. No games.

Yeah, that's me too - I do a lot of personal spreadsheets, do some word processing, simple stuff comparitively speaking. Also, I store & organize a lot of pictures. Social media. Watch YooToob vids -- That's it -- no heat -- happy owner lol

I don't think the cover can be purchased on its own. The Amazon link is:

That is sad, and honestly wild to read. As a millennial, I definitely remember the whole class going to the computer lab to learn typing as early as 3rd grade.

Considering our complete reliance on computers now, that girly reputation of learning to type didn't age so well.
Going to computer lab should be a clue on the difference in his experience.

The big difference between typing on a computer and typing on a typewriter is the fact that on a computer you can backspace and type over.

I graduated HS in 1967 and college-bound students were required to take Personal Use Typing. In that class 10 strike-overs on a page was a fail. As a consequence, I hated typing--until I got an Apple ][ and word processing software, which changed the whole dynamic. I've since written several textbooks and, I promise you, I would never have done so without word processors--which we now take for granted.

Back to the Neo. While I do frequently look at the keyboard while typing, I think I could get by using the light reflected from the keyboard. The one time it is annoying not having a backlit keyboard is when I try to type using the Vision Pro headset, since there is no reflected light whatsoever in that setting.

Flexing about personal typing skills, mixed with throwing shade in Neo threads on MR and Reddit is pretty funny. Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

Why? You could also learn touch typing, something that I thought everyone was taught from elementary school.
You really aren’t supposed to spend that much time looking at the keys.
I can't speak for other countries, or any time period outside of the 1990s/early 2000s, but we definitely didn't learn touch-typing (though I think many of us learn to do it simply from repetition).

I finally did something that I've been wanted to do to my Neo for a while now - put a black keyboard on it! The key caps came from a broken M1 upper case. I love how it looks on the silver Neo. I'm not a fan of how rubber keyboard covers feel, so swapping the key caps was the ultimate solution for my wants. I also couldn't figure out what to do about the lock button so I put an extra "L" there for "Lock". I'm not terribly miffed about the lower visibility as I'm a touch typist anyway, and I just adore how classic it looks now.

I built my main gaming rig in there a few years back - Ryzen 5 5600, 64GB 3200MHz DDR4, 4TB SSD storage, 1080 Ti 11GB running Linux Mint. And all in the dingus little case. I genuinely love that little system.

Very nice! This looks like a modern version of the old Unibody/Retina 13" MBPs.

I had an Indigo 256 Neo and I noticed the few times I used it in bed at night the keyboard was very hard to see. I can touch type however just finding my home keys was difficult. I would have just kept that color and maybe use a dim lamp at bedside but I wanted the 512 SSD; I returned the Indigo and got Silver. The silver is much easier to use at night, but I really liked Indigo. Add a backlight keyboard or one of those Thinkpad Thinklights and Id get that Indigo again.

Yup, I had silver. Even with the lighter keyboard I still couldn’t see it at night. Bought an air to fix that. If they add a backlight keyboard it would be epic.
