While I'm generally neutral on what a government should do in a consumer market, this has to be somewhere it weighs in with full force. Or they can pull a communist maneuver and retake control of the beast it once fostered.

Getting tired of AT&T

I'm sick of AT&T. Without the iPhone, they'd be nowhere near the powerhouse they are now.

How about treating iPhone users like the goddamn cash cow we are instead of bothersome customers?

How in the hell is Facetime data different than regular data?

Why am I being punished as a long-time customer for wanting to keep the plan I enrolled with?

Data is data...i have a plan with unlimited data, now let me use that. Ridiculous.

This is great! AT&T should only be allowed to charge based on data usage. This would be like the electric company not allowing you to use certain appliances.

Can someone please remind me of the advantages/disadvantages if I was to switch to Verizon? They have a larger and faster LTE rollout, correct? I'm weighing my options.

What worries me with all this fiasco is that if AT&T just decides FORCE me, instead of ASKING me, to switch plans from my unlimited data. At least right now I have a choice if I'm willing to trade my unlimited plan over facetime capability, which I would gladly choose the former. I understand those who are already paying a fixed amount of data every month because nobody should tell you how to use your data. But for me still on unlimited data plans, I don't want to rock the boat too much.

You will have to use their more expensive mobile share plan

would not trade unlimited data for a mobile share deal to get facetime. can you imagine how much content consumption and data usage we'll all be doing in the next 3-7 years? you'll want to make sure you never trade your unlimited data packages! they will be rare in the years down the road.

Even if the FCC shoots them down on FaceTime data plan requirements, at&t will find another way to impose a limit. Much like how the banks made things more expensive for the rest of us once Congress said they can't impose certain fees on deadbeats.

There's no free lunch.

Yep. AT&T finally decides to stop grandfathering the unlimited plan. Worse, they start only offering the shared plans (ok for some, but not for those with just a few devices/people or just one person on the plan).

Might be switching to Verizon if AT&T really requires a new data plan for FaceTime.

Verizon will pull their own stunt.

Everyone needs to write to their congress reps to speak out against carriers nitpicking use of their systems. We paid for x amount of data, what we do with it should not be their business. They should be thrilled that I used up my 3gb in a week so I can pay them overages. Etc.

+ Wider 3G and LTE availability.
+ More likely to honor employee discounts on phone plans that include an iPhone.
- They only let new customers sign up for the Share Everything plan, which forces unlimited minutes/texts on you.

Ef cc

the ef cc won't care about this unless they see a way to make money from it.

Except that AT&T can pull the plug on those plans unless you choose to stick with your current phone for the foreseeable future. They haven't yet, but don't hold your breath.

About time someone says something! Still on unlimited data and don't want to lose it!

Well then why do you want AT&T forced to do this? Because no one is forcing them to grandfather the plans. THis may just be their excuse to stop grandfathering the plan (Well, we can't handle the bandwidth for people to have unlimited and be using Facetime/tethering).

its funny how att isnt even trying to compete its almost like they think that people cant just go somewhere else. they should have released this after everyone signed a new contract once the new iphone comes out

AT&T is one of the greediest companies in the US. We should all report them to the BBB.

Define greed? Profitable for their shareholders? or do you have a better definition genius?

I think Apple wins hands down for greed. Doubt AT&T is sitting on quite the amount of cash Apple is sitting on. But I get it.... Apple gets a pass and your money, AT&T should give you stuff for free....

They'll just throttle you.
