Good. Net neutrality was unfair for businesses and didn't make sense for the consumer long term. It was anti-capitalism and would ultimately prevent businesses' growth and negatively affect the future of the internet.

You literally told everyone you know nothing about Net Neutrality.

ISPs did not pay for the internet, the tax payers did. ISPs were given huge amounts of money by the government to build up the infrastructure which they failed to deliver on. (Had they delivered we'd of all had broadband by 2000).

Why should an ISP get to control what happens to the internet when they didn't create it or pay for the infrastructure?

As for "prevent business growth" the opposite is true. No net neutrality means that Comcast and others can squash startups by preventing their traffic from going through, this has already happened many times and was the reason the rules were put in place.

This is a very classical use of slippery slope fallacy. Using the same mindset one could also say that ISPs will start charging people $50 each month to access any video website, and $50 to access any news website, and so on...

If we want anarchy we wouldn't have formed a government. It needs to strike a balance between over-regulating and under-regulating. Simply saying market/society will correct itself is proven wrong so many times with depression, financial crisis, mass shooting, heavily polluted cities, etc.

Except that the internet has done just fine for the last 20 years without the gov, so we don't need any of this crisis management that the government loves so much.

What's happening?

Seriously, what is happening? What's changed since the reversal of Title II reclassification? What changed after Title II reclassification in 2015? I've heard all the hypotheticals. I want actuals. What's happening, and what has happened?

Before reclassification, AT&T tried that BS with limiting FaceTime on iPhones to not be available unless you subscribed to certain tiered plans because they felt Net Neutrality only applied to downloaded apps and they could block and/or charge more for iPhone users to access iOS apps that came preinstalled.

Unfortunately you appear to be the one who doesn’t know what it is. With Net Neutrality internet regulation rested in the government which was accountable to voters. Now that it has been repealed regulation is the responsibility of unelected unaccountable businesses. If you are lucky enough to live in an area with a lot of ISPS to choose from you likely will not see much of an impact. If you only have the choice of one or two you will end up paying much higher prices for the same thing or probably about the same for much less.

All because some government, probably local elected to limit your ISP choices. Easily resolvable with the same method you prefer, elect different local government officials. You already have the solution you want in this case. You need to ask why is it not working? And the honest answer is NOT more of the same. It does not work because the government does not do what people want except in the extreme cases. Otherwise the local government in your example would allow competition. There are no unaccountable business, unless they are made by government allowing a monopoly.

Net Neutrality is about moving closer to another government monopoly by unaccountable bureaucrats. This is much worse than unaccountable business because you cannot sue government and you cannot put government workers in jail for ignoring the law. With unaccountable businesses people have options, with government none.

How are you going to like it when Trump uses this power to enforce his politics? Not so much, I'll bet.

I cannot wait to vote blue in the midterms.
Most of my family and friends are Republican voters.... or should I say were. And I never voted for Obama either. So many people are moving away from the Right that I’m proud of each person that realizes what a mess the GOP are. I wonder between this and those Florida teens what would happen IF ( I said if ) there’s a tidal wave of support for the dems. Would the GOP contest it? If so by how much ?? Would it be like the Obama era? Would they squat in their positions of power?

Checked my paycheck, found more money. Sorry, I disagree.

Wait until you do your 2018 taxes to decide that. Just because they are withholding less now does not mean your taxes went down. They may have, but you won't know until you file your 2018 taxes.

And to the people who think the internet did just fine without the government, DARPA might disagree.

You can sue the government. Also... Government workers can go to jail.

Theoretically maybe, but I've not see it for anything related to the government filed by the people, except for maybe issues that fall under the Federal Tort Claims Act, which is mostly about accidents and injuries. Essentially the government has exempted itself from being sued for doing most actions and the immunity extends to most state and federal agencies.

Its called government immunity. That is why police departments can take your property without due process. All they have to do is think you were involved in a crime. No court, no trial, no judge, no recourse. Think about that. All the government did was pass law and bang, you lose. The government has grown too large, but more importantly too powerful, that nothing the government does anymore is worth the increased risk to individuals, unless of course one is a snowflake. Then nothing matters but ideology.

Unfortunately there is really no real difference between the parties. They both stand for themselves and not the people. Oh, they cry and whine on TV about how much they care, but look at the laws they pass or fail to pass and you get a completely different story.

BTW you have to look at the actual laws, the media and politicians lie when they summarize the laws they are voting on. Why? Because its easy and it works, most people don't take the time to check the actual laws being proposed.

I increased my 401K contributions, so they most likely will stay the same.

Its too bad people don't take the time to realize and read what this was really about. The title Net Neutrality was totally misleading if not an outright lie. What the law meant was that the government could make any rules it wanted at any time without the involvement of Congress. Of course they did not make any controversial laws right now, because they did not want to upset the Apple cart (he he). But once they have established the authority, then slowly but surely they can implement censorship or whatever other private agenda the government wanted.

That original law was good for Tech companies because they spend so much money on political issues that they could determine what was done and when. Without this law, Tech companies have to compete against each other by disclosing and reacting to their users. This is a lot harder to do and to control. But it is the best for consumers.

Thank you for explaining it. I was fully aware that "Net Neutrality" was Orwellian newspeak, but the whole issue was so insanely confounded that I could not make heads or tails of it - albeit I hadn't really looked much into it.

Along with the rest of the current (utterly corrupt) Trump administration I hope the lawsuits follow Ajit Pai right out of office into his own financial ruin. That would be the ultimate payback to consumers.

PS: only hope is to fundamentally rearchitect campaign finance laws.
