Okay, I'm very confused. So is Dolby Vision and HDR10 an inferior form of HDR?

iPhone X - Has "HDR Screen"
iPhone 8 series - NO "HDR Screen"

iPhone X video playback - "High Dynamic Range with Dolby Vision and HDR10 content"
iPhone 8 series video playback - "Supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 content"

They said fall, today is the first day of fall...
Maybe they meant fall in the southern hemisphere?

They have been kicking the can down the road for as long as Apple TV 4 has been in existence. I don't have much faith that Amazon will follow through, but I am hopeful.

This is true. I remember shortly after the ATV4 launch, the rumors said that Amazon Prime Video app was almost completed and would be out before the end of 2015.

After 2015, there was a few more rumors about an imminent release of the app, but of course that never happened.

Netflix released the update on the heels of iOS11. I am looking at your Amazon, you have been the slacker here, what happened to Amazon Video Apple TV app?

Amazon isn't going to release an Apple TV 4K HDR app until they've launched the new Fire TVs which support HDR for the first time.

No. I’m not sure if it is just Apple trying to differentiate X from the 8 with this wording, or what. The X with OLED display has a much higher contrast ratio, so it will look better, but, the 8 is capable of HDR.

What I find odd is that the panels in the 8/8+ are the same ones used in the 7/7+, yet Apple has not added HDR capability to the 7. I’m guessing it doesn’t have the hardware, as every iOS device that does HDR has A10X or A11, both new processors this year.

The biggest difference I think with HDR content is peak brightness. The 10.5 iPad screen is 600 nits which in the grand scheme of things, is on the low end for HDR displays. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the iPad screen is bad but obviously a larger screen with higher nits gives a better HDR experience.

I have not watched The Defenders so I don't how the good the HDR is on that one. Some movies look much better. Try watching Pacific Rim in HDR if thats available on iTunes. That is great HDR demo material. Mad Max is another one. My Vizio P-Series is only 600 nits as well but both of those look amazing.
Apple LCD displays simply don’t have enough contrast. And the max brightness on my 10.5” has only been achievable with very high ambient light, which kills contrast even more.

You don't want HDR content to look different on an LCD iPhone/iPad. It should look the same as SDR, except for the occasional more saturated colors on the p3 gamut displays.

This makes more sense than anything else. Then they can sell not only ATV 4K, but, their competition. (Part of the deal between Apple and amazon is for amazon to sell Apple TV again, they stopped selling a couple years ago or so.)

The statement made at September event was “later this year”. (I just verified this.)
