There is no way they are going to release an app for the iPhone or iPod touch, if they did, they would have to deal with the fact that both devices have significantly lower resolution, there is no way to comfortably watch a movie on such a small screen, keep in mind that most, if not all movies are designed for larger screens.

Try reading text on a page shown in a movie on a screen the size of an iPhone. Try seeing that guy in the background or just far away, without higher resolution, you wont be able to recognize that guy, the list can go on and on and quite frankly, it's obvious, there's a reason we watch movies with high resolution TVs, this device is probably the lowest resolution that Netflix is willing to support, they also have to consider the overall customer satisfaction, which I'm sure would be reduced if they released it for small devices.

On a side note, the iPad and iPhone use pretty much the same software, if they really wanted it on both devices, I'm fairly certain it would have been done at the same time.

The resolution of an SD TV is no higher than the resolution of an iPhone. Try watching a clip of a movie from youtube. It's not as nice as watching on a big screen TV, but it works. Remember the iPhone is a lot closer to you than a TV that is across the living room.

I guess someone was wrong...

The only problem I've encountered is that I can't display the movie on my TV via the ipad-to-component adapter. The YouTube app displays video through the adapter onto the TV fine, but the Netflix app doesn't. Has anyone had success getting Netflix video on the ipad displayed on a TV?

Problem with Netflix

No matter what the platform (Xbox, Tivo, iPad) I have always had an issue with the Netflix streaming service. No new releases like iTunes (usually, even iTunes has problems with some studios of course), and usually nothing I would like to watch because the library is so old. Tell me if I'm wrong because it's been about 6 months since the last I used it but that has always been my experience.

My Netflix streaming has always been great. Maybe it's your internet provider breaking your stream. (and never, ever, cross the streams!)

Never anything to do with the streaming, that's just fine. I've just seen that their content is lacking. No new releases...very old movies. etc.

Suggest it to Netflix. Each app vendor gets to choose whether to work with the dock accessories or not. By default it does nothing as you have discovered. The YouTube app has it built-in.

Oh, well yes. I agree there. We do mostly DVDs still because of that. That's a licensing war though. They'll come in time as media companies realize that streaming is the future. I'm not going to pay Comcast to stream what they want me to see over the same exact coax cable that I can use to stream the media I want and when I want it.

Agreed. Until that happens though, I guess Red Box for me but too bad the iPad doesn't have just a small DVD player in it. I guess that's what Handbrake is for. ;)
