Now expect Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, and more to copy strategy. Consumers will realize that they cannot afford to subscribe to this many services. Soon, cable TV will make a triumphant comeback as customers return to connect to the cord.
You're making the assumption that people subscribe to all those services at the same time. But they don't. People subscribe to an average of 2.8 services at a time.

That is less than what a cable TV sub costs. Even 6 concurrent streaming services is less than what cable TV costs.

According to the survey findings, the average person subscribes to 2.8 streaming services—with nearly 10% paying for more than five streaming services at any given time.

Something is not right.

How do we know these are real subscribers? Could be the bot accounts. Someone needs to audit Netflix.
Convenience wins out over principle. Always. It shouldn’t be like that, but it is.

I’m convinced lots of people—faced with the prospect of losing their stories—probably just decided, “eh, I got it so free/cheap for so long, I can put the $15 on my credit card and not think about it again.”

Right, because no large corporation has ever fudged numbers before. 🤣😂🤣
It's not about fudging numbers as much as hiding real details within the numbers. They don't break down the subscription tiers which means they didn't reveal how many thousands (millions?) of customers like me downgraded from the premium tier to the standard tier since we don't need as many slots now because we cannot share the account. Companies always lead with the biggest numbers because that gets the attention. But those numbers never directly correlate to better revenues, profits or customer loyalty.

I honestly don't think Cable TV will ever go out of business. There's something about watching live TV which you don't get from Netflix, Hulu or Disney +, and so on.
Why do you think Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, et al can't do live streaming?

Amazon does it. YouTube does it. Netflix has done it.

There is nothing prevent them from doing live streaming. Nothing.

Cable TV is only in business because its current viewers haven't died yet. It's a harsh truth but you will not find enough young and mid-lifers to support the cable business. Only old people still have cable because most don't want change but that change is coming for cable and elderly folks whether they want it or not.

They still haven't enforced it with my account... wondering if they are counting all the pre-emptive gainers before actually cracking down to make things look better than they might really be...
But you can be sure they will… phasing the rollout is a smart way to do it just as T-Mobile phased out autopay discounts for credit cards over 8 or so months… as they say about slow boiling frogs… when the time comes for your account you probably won’t be as angry and will have begun to accept it as you’d been expecting for so long

Remember when so many people cried that that they were going to cancel their subscription because of this move?

Called it! Netflix deserves every cent all!
Over 100 million households sharing and only 6 million new subscriptions means less than 6% of shared users came back. Maybe much less than 6% depending how many users each household was sharing with.

I like you, but disagree with your view that people should be able to enjoy content for free. I get it, you're from Vegas and think all the world should be free (except for Vegas's insane rents and housing prices, and food prices, and tickets to a show, and money you lose at casinos, etc). Bottom line, Netflix offers content people are willing to pay for., for a whopping $19 a month. Get over it.

But MacRumor posters said they would go out of business!
Just because they got a ton of people paying the bare minimum for service when people like me cancelled my 12 year old 4K plan isn't exactly a win in the long run. That's how businesses do it. Hey we got 6 million new people to sign up! How many quit and what service level? No comment.

It's $19 a month people. I spend twice that much on a rib dinner and beer twice a week. It's kinda amazing how people consider $19 for a good meal at a restaurant is fine, but then raise hell over paying that much for a huge amount of content over the course of a month.

The one year commitments are coming. They know many people jump from service to service once they kill sharing the 1 year lock-ins will begin.
