Just goes to show, none of you know the first thing about business. Everyone was saying they were gonna cancel their account and Netflix would go out of business…lmao couldn’t be more wrong
Something to keep in mind, this indicates global paid memberships. Not saying it’s a clear picture, but it doesn’t break down by the areas they’ve locked down on passwords vs areas where password sharing is still enabled. They could very well have seen an increase in numbers in places not yet affected by the change, and a decrease in memberships in the affected areas.
Netflix earlier this year began cracking down on password sharing in the United States and other countries, and the effort has been successful, the company said today. Netflix gained 5.9 million new global subscribers in the second quarter of 2023, including more than one million in the U.S. and Canada, according to its most recent earnings report [PDF].

Based on these results, Netflix will now roll out paid sharing to "almost all" remaining countries where the new policies have not yet been enacted. Netflix eliminated multi-household password sharing in the United States in May, a move that immediately caused signups to surge.
According to Netflix, revenue is up in every region where paid sharing was introduced, and sign-ups have exceeded cancelations. The company saw revenue growth of 2.7 percent year over year. Going forward, Netflix expects revenue growth to accelerate further as it begins to see the full benefits of paid sharing and additional adoption of its ad-supported plan.
For years, Netflix allowed subscribers to share their accounts with people outside of their direct household, but that is no longer allowed. All people who access a Netflix account must live in the same location, with Netflix restricting access based on IP and other location data. Netflix provided tools to allow those sharing accounts to sign up for their own accounts.
Netflix claimed that more than 100 million households were sharing accounts, impacting its ability to "invest in and improve Netflix" for paying members.

Almost everyone. I closed my account on June 16th. You have a 30 day grace period to change your mind. I haven't. Never speak/write in absolutes. Your family and friends will respect you for it.Just goes to show, none of you know the first thing about business. Sorry, I think you misunderstood. Never said it should be free. However, lowering the price is always better and Netflix doesn't seem to think that way anymore. In addition, it's hot as hell in Las Vegas. We are melting over here. 🫠I like you, but disagree with your view that people should be able to enjoy content for free. I get it, you're from Vegas and think all the world should be free (except for Vegas's insane rents and housing prices, and food prices, and tickets to a show, and money you lose at casinos, etc). Bottom line, Netflix offers content people are willing to pay for., for a whopping $19 a month. Get over it.
My point was by cracking down later they can make their loss/gain numbers look better initially than they may end up being. But you can be sure they will… phasing the rollout is a smart way to do it just as T-Mobile phased out autopay discounts for credit cards over 8 or so months… as they say about slow boiling frogs… when the time comes for your account you probably won’t be as angry and will have begun to accept it as you’d been expecting for so long
Something is not right.
How do we know these are real subscribers? Could be the bot accounts. Someone needs to audit Netflix.
If "bot accounts" are paying for their subscription, what difference does it make?Something is not right.

They seem to forget this...

keep hope alive, I look forward to the day when they do 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎But MacRumor posters said they would go out of business!
I'll be in Vegas in 2 weeks... thats hot. Coming from SW Florida where its hot as hell too but tropical not desert.Sorry, I think you misunderstood. Never said it should be free. The numbers reported are 5.9M paid net additions.Happy to give a new subscription numbers but not any numbers with account cancellations or net subscriptions. Sounds like bonuses are being paid out with new business numbers.
