Cable TV as it is now with mostly linear programing combined with some on demand or that cable TV providers like Spectrum, Xfinity, DirecTV, etc. will become the primary distributors of individual and packaged streaming services?

Cable TV providers are trying to make the latter happen and are already getting into the streaming distribution business similar to how they’d long been in the "premium channel" (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Disney, etc.) distribution business.

One way or another, some degree of steaming service consolidation at least in distribution seems likely to continue.

Seems more like some consolidation is merely partnering. Guess people are expecting lots of fallout from so many smaller fry versus the larger more dominant streamers. Max has already bundled with Disney as one example. Paramount + will obviously go a similar route in the states. Apple TV + who knows? Excellent content but lots keep dropping and returning as a way to watch it’s content for low cost.

Never happen again, people like the freedom of VoD without rigid schedule where you can stop and comeback to last content and continue without time limits of that be allowed per cable provider. Then there is the additional made up fees, like rebroadcast and sports fees to the tune of approximately $40 extra. Then planned rate increases yearly without basis. Then you have cable PQ using cable model filters with 720p/1080i just looks lousy compared to streamed 1080p content.

No matter what paid or free streaming you watch costs are your choice, not arguing with a cable company about changing services. Fortunately most cable companies recognize that retaining ISP subscribers is paramount and they now push cell services to increase their revenues but you can ignore those efforts. :)
The problem is, one can’t simply channel surf if the options are only streaming the way one can the cable or over-the-air TV. One has to activate one’s streaming device, select and app, wait for it to load and buffer, and and then proceed with that particular’s app’s menu. And what if I want to see some sports? By the time one pays for decent internet service and subscribes to the streaming services that cover one’s eclectic tastes, one is paying at least as much as cable.

My workaround for that is an antenna on the roof, where I live the networks are digital UHF transmitters. Then the TV is also connected to the internet that you acquire as time permits. Internet dies, OTA is there. I find more the enough sports are on some days. So the best of both worlds without cable providers. ;)

Could the price hike be due to "binge" subscribers?

People who subscribe and then cancel, so Netflix needs to jack up the monthly price to keep revenue up during the churn?

To be fair, 90% of "content" they create nowadays is unwatchable, cringey, woke-propaganda garbage with high school play level of acting. I want to be entertained for my money, not lectured on proper pronoun usage by mediocre actors under mediocre direction.

Sadly, stands true for almost all of streaming services "original content".
my goodness, stop crying about woke culture. go subscribe to Rumble or iQiyi then, or maybe the daily wire, there are alternatives for you.

Netflix acting in their own interests affects society much more than "spreading woke propaganda" because it's basically business techbro leaders and Facebook moms trying to indoctrinate young men. these guys have many more resources than the "woke culture". Pronoun usage is aimed towards the young demographic and I only see the far-right republican party and rich elders crying about it.

this is a business decision they've made, corporate heads are out of touch with the actors, the writers and the general public, they own the company and they want to see growth, otherwise they don't really care what the people below them do.

I suspect it’s more because Netflix knows they can. And if we assume that Netflix is still in the process of figuring out what the magical price point is which maximises revenue for their subscriber base, expect to see a couple more price hikes in the near future.
