In the meantime, we all go out and spend thousands of dollars on media equipment and updated streaming packages to watch Netflix and others. 😂

cheaper to buy used blue ray movies and DVD's at a thrift store and watch them. and you physically own the movie

Netflix offers a lot of content besides movies. As far as being cheaper, that depends on what and how much content people are interested in, where they want to watch it, etc. If the average "thrift store" DVD or Blu-ray is $3, that only gives someone around 8 movies per month for the price of the Netflix Premium plan which offers a much wider variety of movies, shows, live events, and games with new ones being added regularly, the ability to access content on up to 4 supported devices simultaneously, the ability to download on 6 supported devices at a time, etc.

Pass the popcorn. This should be about the ninth time everyone is about to promise they are quitting Netflix. I don't know how to quit more than one time but many of us seem to know how to quit 9 or so times. Impressive! ;)

This is so accurate. Every day I see people complaining about the price of everything. The one thing they won't even consider is NOT buying things that have gotten very expensive. Complaining while handing over your money does nothing to change things. (And I'm not talking about basic necessities... people are spending like crazy on non-essential items)

Currently included in a package through my mobile provider. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have Netflix at all as the quality of the content has really taken a nose dive and there isn't anything we watch anymore since they cancelled everything.

There has to be more well to do country’s subscriptions that are allowing funding of less fortunate country’s subscriptions going on. Also Netflix continues to very internationally based as far as providing non-English content which a lot in the states see as worthless, such as large amounts of Asian productions.

In the same time period a whopper meal went from about $6 to $15.
I don’t go to Burger King anymore, either. Fast food simply isn’t worth the price these days. You’re paying big for a stomach ache. And it isn’t that fast. You’re better off going to a diner or sit-down family restaurant. Not much more money, much better food… and friendly service.

They are about to raise me from $15.49 to $17.99 for Standard HD w/o Ads. Why is 'With Ads' $10 cheaper ($7.99)?
Can anyone tell me just how bad the Ads are? Is it worth it?

They make a lot off of revenue from ad providers. It’s seriously profitable just as it with OTA broadcast particularly with live events such sports on Netflix.

How many ads will I see?

Netflix claims that you will see around four minutes of commercials per hour. That’s enough to not really bother people, especially if the commercial break is all at once during an hour-long show. Netflix does caution customers by saying that this might “vary based on the title you’re watching”. But keep in mind, linear TV typically has around 14-18 minutes of ads in an hour-long show, so it’s pretty short with Netflix.

Ads will be about 15 seconds or 30 seconds in length and will appear either before and/or during the title.

So far, Netflix is not showing when ads will appear on the progress bar. Like other streaming services do, which have ads. So it’s hard to tell how the ads will be split up.

Thanks. Guess it's time for a family meeting to discuss Netflix's future. I'm already paying for Prime, Paramount+, Hulu, Disney, & Brit Box and we know once Netflix's rates raise...the others will follow.

Most of what I want to watch from them is available on……other sites (if you know where to look). As far as convenience goes, it’s just a matter of pulling it up on my phone and mirroring it to my TV via my Apple TV Box.

I’ll pay for certain apps/channels like ESPN+ and the like since I’m a volleyball fan, but ******tification across the whole streaming landscape has ensured I’ll be sailing the high seas for the foreseeable future.

If it helps, quit when I was forced to quit my via Apple netflix subscription at £5.99 pcm and never looked back.

WOW this is crazy. People are paying more to watch ads... 🤷🏻‍♂️

At some point this streaming model will collapse, I mean it has to.

What do ads have to do with anything? Legacy television, newspapers, and magazines have long typically had ads yet would see price increases too. This includes online products/services with ads.

Collapse in what sense? Streaming services like Netflix continue to do quite well as far as numbers of subscribers. What is going to be the next new entertainment product to replace or shift people from streaming (and gaming)?

Cable tv

Never happen again, people like the freedom of VoD without rigid schedule where you can stop and comeback to last content and continue without time limits of that be allowed per cable provider. Then there is the additional made up fees, like rebroadcast and sports fees to the tune of approximately $40 extra. Then planned rate increases yearly without basis. Then you have cable PQ using cable model filters with 720p/1080i just looks lousy compared to streamed 1080p content.

No matter what paid or free streaming you watch costs are your choice, not arguing with a cable company about changing services. Fortunately most cable companies recognize that retaining ISP subscribers is paramount and they now push cell services to increase their revenues but you can ignore those efforts. :)
