Literally a day after I caved and bought The Wire on Apple TV/iTunes 🤣 (Though this deal will take 12–18 months to finalise, so no harm really. Just amused me.)

Not sure whether this is good for consumers or not tbh. In the UK Now TV have all the HBO catalogue, which is their main value proposition, so they're in trouble. Guess we'll see how much Netflix hike the price up once they add HBO, but their library is going to be pretty great once all this is in.
Sky are f*cked if they have to pull the Atlantic channel and lose that content to Netflix - you can't get that channel even if you sign up to get Sky's channels through Virgin.

That's before Apple come gunning for their F1 rights in a few years, and Amazon continue their march for the footy content (which I don't watch, but obviously Sky Sports is a huge draw to them).

Since Skydance was the favored deal from the White House, I am guessing we will see some kickback from the US Government over this.

I hope this means that Westworld gets put back on the shelf.. Its amazing when you think about it.. HBO set fire to Westworld to write it off as a total loss. Which means it never existed, cant be sold to a streaming service and cant be sold in Blu-ray form. Hopefully there is some legal room to change that.

Hmmm... HBO became noticeable worse (both quality and value for money) when they merged with Discovery... not to mention the naming kerfuffle... so this is probably a good sign... unless they drag Netflix down to WBs level of incompetence...

And as long as the price increase for the combined service is less than (or at the most equal to) the sum of what I'm paying for Netflix and HBO now, then I'm not too concerned about this...
Not a chance..

Yes, that's exactly what we need : More monopolies.
To call Apple Netflix/HBO a monopoly is “just hilarious”.

Quoting yourself from last year:
I don’t think you know what the word “monopolistic” means. Here’s a definition for you : https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/monopoly

Apples iOS share of the market is 24% vs the 74% of Google/Android. Apple is a minor player. Just because they’re good at extracting money from their tiny market doesn’t mean they’re a monopoly.
What is Netflix’ and Warner Bros’ combined share of the movie (TV/streaming) market?

This Media consolidation is the worst thing ever right now.. How can the #3 streamer merge with the #1.. Why are Monopoly's ok.. we need more competition not less... The CEOs all complain about costs and the need to consolidate but we all know its only so they can become richer in these deals.. If only we had an entity that could look out for consumers and stop monopolies from forming....

but you like apple monopoly, right? 😂
monopoly of what ? Are there any other competitors than Microsoft and Google in the Operating Systems field ? Were there any OS companies that Apple bought ? If Apple bought Microsoft or Google, then yes, it would be bad and it would be a monoply.

But we all just got used to calling it HBO again.
I guess we’ll be having Netflix, and Netflix Max, a new, more expensive tier with all the benefits Premium users used to have…

Not just Netflix price hikes. Can't wait for all the service providers out there that forcibly cram and bundle Netflix to have to hike their own rates "because" Netflix did it.

Pluto and Tubi are still free.

They can raise the price to whatever they want. It won’t affect me because I’m not going to pay it. Streaming services are the easiest thing in the world to not subscribe to.

I've never seen it (too young first time around), but I'm here for it.
Breaking Bad > The Wire > Sopranos IMO. It was good but I enjoyed The Wire more.

I still get HBO for free with my AT&T plan, hope that doesn't go away but i'm sure it will eventually.

Netflix is buying HBO Discovery.
They’re not buying them and Amazon and Disney and Hulu.

Their combined market share in video streaming is like 36% or something in the U.S., and most probably less elsewhere. Not much more than the 24% that you described as Apple being a “minor player”.

And yes, I couldn’t help pointing out the irony, remembering your name. Took about a minute or two to pull that up again - no stalking needed.
