Most originals are turds so they waste money and raise our rates. At least there is competition "soon too be more" and the other services have more "quality" programming.

Careful Netflix. Starting to go from a nice discretionary expense to something else with more competitors. If you ask me, there are already too many shows. Used to be less expensive, more device "allowance", and more features at a lower cost.

You guys complaining about a rate increase try inviting a girl over to Netflix and chill with no Netflix. Tell me how that goes...

Time to cancel. Like most, I’d prefer a lot more syndicated content and less of the Original Content garbage. Having been a long time Amazon Prime customer, I notice they don’t gouge me extra to watch in 4KHDR. I seem to always find something to watch on AP. Netflix good for comedy specials, but that’s about all they have to interest me anymore.

Everyone’s tastes and value thresholds are different and this is just my opinion based on my household viewing habits. To each their own.

Customer warning Netflix. Hike the price and I can hike too.

YouTube and lube is the new thing
Pretty sure for many people they’ve gone hand in hand for some time, pun intended.

With Kanopy, MUBI and now the Criterion Channel, I personally don't really see much need for Netflix any more...
You lucky North Americans!

Criterion Channel sounds really good, I don't think we have anything like that in UK/EU? – Artificial Eye (now Curzon Artificial Eye) is likely our closest thing, but AFAICT that's on-demand rather than subscription, unfortunately, though it is just released new stuff I suppose.

What do Kanopy and MUBI offer...?

Bye bye Netflix. You too greedy too fast. You ain’t HBO. HBO isn’t even HBO and you charging HBO prices!!!!! Eeeek!

Thank god netflix isnt hbo - hbo has literally nothing to offer, atleast ”hbo nordic” hasnt - an empty basket which has only lived due to GoT.

I was disappointed as well and was about to hit the cancel button when suddenly my blockbuster days flashed before my eyes... Now I'm rewatching chandler bing got excited about his new laptop lol.

What are the alternatives to watching Netflix originals in 4K HDR? I suppose I can pay $3/month extra and share my account with a friend (since I now get double the number of simultaneous streams), but I would think that's not beneficial to Netflix's bottom line.
I didn't know you wanted to watch their originals in particular. The alternatives are for other stuff. You could... just not watch their originals or live with slightly worse quality.

I cancelled mine long ago. Didn't miss much. Occasionally I go on iTunes and purchase movies that I really want to watch/keep.
iTunes is what my family uses for movies.
- They have all the movies, unlike Netflix.
- So does Amazon Video, but it's a total pain to use for some reason. E.g. the UI having a "how do I watch this?" button that tells you to go rent it online first.
- Pay as you go, similar pricing as other services.

Netflix has way more content than hbo
[doublepost=1554829046][/doublepost]But for what I get, I consider it to be one of the best values out of everything I pay for. I could easily JUST have Netflix and be totally happy with what I get. In a time with a million streaming services vying for your money, that’s saying something

The problem is the general quality of Netflix shows is not very good. The quality show are only a handful and not worth subscribing the whole year long. That’s why I’m planing to subscribe to it only intermittently.

I don't understand. Netflix was introduced so people can "cut cable off" because it was cheaper. Now third parties are removing their content from Netflix because they want to launch their own streaming services which will probably cost the same as Netflix. So cable is now pretty much out of the picture(compared to 10 years ago), BUT now there are tons of different streaming services to choose from. This is like the cable era all over again.

Depends where you live, but I like the current method way better than the old way.

In my country Sky is the main premium offering, their current cheapest deal is £22 -https://www.sky.com/shop/tv?irct=PHP-DTH-panel which is for a minimum of 18 months = £396.

I only need 1 streaming service at any 1 time. I can have Netflix for 3 months, once I get bored I can get Amazon Prime for 3 months. Then I can get Netlfix again for a month, followed by a Sky Cinema Pass for 3 months etc. The max I'm spending is ~£10 a month (~£180 for 18 months vs nearly £400 for Sky). I get to watch all the the shows I want from any provider.

I watch a show or 2 a month (full series rather than weekly episodes). I don't personally care about watching things as soon as they come out. So if e.g. Stranger Things season 3 comes out whilst I only have an Amazon Prime subscription I don't mind. I'll just watch ST when I get a Netlfix sub again. So the new way and cutting cable works way better for my needs. (But I also know for some people TV is life, so for those people who need to sign up to everything - Cable or multiple subs might be the option which sucks for them).

True but there are free services if that is all that you want to do.

I said “sometimes”, not “every time I come home I just want to sit down and watch some garbage show that I’ve paid a monthly subscription fee for.”

I downloaded the The Criterion Channel App to my Apple TV via the App Store, and subscribed from within the App. Great selection. (Even a documentary there with my name in the end titles, lolol)

I've actually never had Netflix, but $12.99 doesn't seem like a very steep price. Standard cable is something that I always thought was way overpriced. I've only heard good things about Netflix as they continue to pump out good original content and they have everything at your fingertips with a good interface. It sounds like a decent deal, though not one I've ever felt I needed as I have everything at my fingertips from a different source.

I remember back in the early days of blu ray there was no extra charge, then they slapped an extra fee for HD disks. Reed Hastings said at a shareholder meeting that they were raising the price because"people were used to paying more for HD" No attempt to justify it other than "We can". Not the best PR move. Anyway I've been gone since they gutted their catalog in favor of in-house content. The stuff they make isn't worth the money to me. If only they'd bring back Quickster,LOL!

Thanks. Found that the service was just launched a couple of days ago. I always want to have the whole Criterion library at my fingertip so will definitely check it out.
