Netflix streams at 4K HDR on Mac Safari, so if Vision OS Safari can do the same thing, it shouldn't be a big deal that there isn't a native app.

Not sure, but Infuse’s iPad app will work at launch and they will be working on a native visionOS version later this year. You can play basically anything you throw at it and it supports spacial audio
There any way to watch DLNA videos or Plex at launch that you're aware of?

Netflix, Spotify, Meta, and more not supporting Apple due to Apple hostile behavior towards these company in the past, only backfires on Apple. You can have a few loyal Apple users here who swear on boycotting these companies, but reality is most normal users still rely on these services, without the apps then the appeal of the device dramatically decreases.
In my part of the world where everyone uses WhatsApp and Not iMessage, but Meta don’t even want it to be on my iPad Pro 12.9 is infuriating but understandable. End up had to use Safari web browser for this.

From business point of view it makes sense for Netflix not to do it. Why waste resources/money coding and maintaining another app for a platform that is considered a niche? What percentage of Apple customers are actually going to buy a device that cost a few thousands dollars and can only be enjoyed by one person at a time?
The web interface is what I use on Macs/PC's for various sites. I like that I can see a more advanced form of the streaming hosts interface, that offers watch content recommendations, and facts about the cast, reviews and so on. iPadOS with its larger resolution has better dedicated streaming apps but doesn't present as much as additional info.

Where does Vision Pro streaming apps fall according to those preferences?

Exactly. If/when the platform gains enough audience they would for sure consider adding Vision Pro as one more platform to support, it's all about money. People all in arms with "user hostile behaviour" but I guess it's macrumors fault for making these clickbaity articles to incite trashy discussion.

Apples ivision (vr for short) has come and gone, and now its been revived by companies seeking to cash in with sales dropping in computers etc.

Many streaming companies are too scared to offer content, until they see the sales. 8k was pushed out to early and streaming companies are not interested.

Ivision is a niche expensive product it may go as fast as it came.

Is there a documented explanation anywhere of the reasoning behind Netflix’s staunch reluctance to fully participate with Apple products?

Thinking this seems to be an extension of Netflix’s attitude toward full integration with tvOS 😕
Apple is a competitor in the same market.

Truth be told Netflix doesn’t need Apple.

This kind of user hostile behavioir is why I cancelled Netflix.

I use the TV app on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac to organize my watch list for virtually every streaming service and none of Netflix's shows appear there so I ended up rarely watching Netflix – so I cancelled.

Netflix is to the TV app what GM is to CarPlay. Both are shooting themselves in the foot in sabotaging the most valuable buyer demographic.

Wrong. Its what Tesla is to Apple carplay.

Netflix doesn’t need Apple. Apple needs Netflix. They should pay Netflix to develop the apps.

Started with Netflix years ago when shows were on mailed DVDs. They pretty much did in video stores. Then things went to online streaming and the barriers to entry were lower and competition heated up. Dropped Netflix a few years ago because I just wasn’t watching movies so much anymore. I watch in the winter when I’m holed up in my house but not in the summer. I found that individual movie rentals on iTunes was the best fit for me. Watch a classic movie from a big library when I want. I also download movies and shows from iTunes to my iPad for watching when I go on vacation. Honestly, I probably watch less now than I did ten years ago. A lot of choice out there but the stuff that interests me are the black and white movies from the 40s and earlier. Something out there for everyone I guess.

I gave up on Netflix long ago due to their pigheaded position on Apple TV integration. At that time it was a bit of a hardship as most of the good content was on Netflix. Now it's easy to avoid Netflix. What with all the great Apple TV+ content, Hulu, Max, I already don't have enough time to watch all the shows in my Up Next queue. I feel like with all the competition that now exists in the streaming world, you have to be pretty brave or pretty stupid to actively make it more difficult for Apple users to use your service. Lot of Apple users out there...

That is because it require next to no extra work and chances are just a port of their car play version. Super easy and very little extra work if any. Plus more people can use it than apple vision.

This sounds a bit like the Spotify Siri/HomePod situation. Netflix is grumpy with Apple for some reason.

They're waiting until they can figure out how to charge extra for it.

That is coming. All these streaming services are already charging for 4K, and that should have been a basic free feature, considering when HD got here that was a free feature. I absolutely hate how 4K has been handled in the last decade.

If you “rely” on Netflix or Spotify, you have other problems…
Some people don’t want to deal with Meta at all and don’t like their data harvesting nor their corruption of the internet (especially in developing nations). There are plenty of other solutions besides iMessage that still avoids Meta entirely… most of that sentiment applies to Spotify too: terrible company for both the workers and content creators, and nothing but a parasite on consumers.

Giving in to what’s “normal” is always respected historically, right?

Compared to Comcast they are not that bad. Comcast recently was suppose to allow premium users to have free access to Peacock during their subscription rate changes, but then why didn't they get that working for 2 months with their apps. At least Netflix has an immediate solution instead of a buggy app.

Amen brother! Now that I've been finally convinced by the endless posts of the extremist Vpro pessimists, I'm right with you on this.

Unfortunately, I only have an 82" TV but I do have a fantastic Receiver and great big, high-quality speakers for surround sound. Instead of this insane, relatively small, mobile device with virtual screen nonsense, my plan now is to always book an aisle seat on the planes when I travel so I'm towards the middle, bring and balance the 82" TV on the tray table, get a couple of guys or gals far left and far right to hold the left & right front speakers, get someone in the row ahead to hold the center speaker above or below the TV... and get a few people back behind me to hold the rear left, rear center and rear right speakers. It doesn't seem like it should be hard to get some volunteers to cater to my wants in that way.

If I want something in ATMOS, I'll bring a few overhead speakers and get some passengers to stand there and hold a few speakers above me while I watch. Piece of cake!

Instead of piddly 2.5 hours of battery for video consumption like in this dumb thing, I'll have to resolve the ZERO minutes of battery life in the TV + Receiver + AppleTV or similar source. But maybe I can only fly on airplanes with electric sockets and I'm confident many complete strangers will happily give up their sockets to let me have this my way. Airline passengers are so renowned for their self sacrifice like that!

If I can't find 5 or 6 fellow passengers to hold all this stuff in the right places, I'll just have to book multiple seats for speakers & related equipment. No problem as $3500 should let me book a LOT of seats on a LOT of flights. I fly 20-30 times each year so that math should work out fine. Forward left-center-right seats, rear left-center-right seats, maybe 2 more for the big subwoofer (it's a big FAT boy) and then one more seat for me roughly in the sweet spot center of all of that.

Then there's just that little matter of convincing the airlines to let me bring all this stuff on the planes and use it... but I rarely am challenged when I want to bring 150-200LBS of stuff on planes now. Maybe I can just claim I'm using my 35LBS of carry on weight per booked seat??? The sub and the TV weigh more than that but I'll just have to convince them or bribe them with all that money savings from not buying Vpro.

Now, I'm also intending to get some work done while flying too. And if I don't want to try to make a measly TV stand in for my 40" ultra-wide desktop monitor, I'll just bring it as well... maybe rigging something up so I can have some apps running on it WHILE watching the big 82" in the background... like this stupid device is apparently able to do. If they'll let me bring all that other stuff on the plane, certainly one more "small" 40" ultra-wide monitor- and one more volunteer letting me take their electric socket- should be no problem at all.

That's the ticket! Or ticketS! ;)
Have fun breaking that vr headset for 3500 before boarding the plane. And if it breaks and you feel like you want to cry over your latest toy. You can always hide your tears with your broken helmet goggles.

Hmmmmm... well since every Netflix price hike (or no sharing subscriptions, etc) article quickly fills with 400-500+ passionate posts about dropping them immediately, is this basically a tree falling in the forest non-event? ;)

Gonna quit tomorrow...
